I only caught bits and pieces of this match, it was too painful to watch full on. Why didn't Hugh put in Naya or Crowl or someone to give some spark to MN? The whole team just looked tired.

I *did* expect Stanford to fight hard through every single set and to continue to improve. So, there's that.

Predictions for tomorrow anyone? MN 3-1 Stanford ORE 3-1 PSU Stanford will be hungry tomorrow no doubt but feel like they might be out of gas. Tall order for MN, especially Landfair though after such a hard fought match. Oregon I feel like will be Penn State rather easily. You must be a student or just learning, as your prediction's rather bad

I've tried to keep an open mind on Shaffmaster, and she's made improvements since her freshman year. But I can't help but think that she's the greatest liability for the MN team. She does many things well: serving, blocking(usually), defense. But she doesn't consistently better the ball. She canNOT set a ball above a player's shoulder if it's not passed on top of her own head. She literally has the opposite of soft hands. And she's the starting setter. Compare that with Miner tonight. She almost always puts her hitters (especially outside hitters) in a position where they can take a rip.
If the low sets are a coaching choice, then Hugh seems to be asking a player to perform something they've repeatedly demonstrated they cannot do. If Shaffmaster CAN set a hittable ball out of transiion, and the reason she isn't is because she's been coached to do something different, it should've been a pretty easy fix by now. The tempo doesn't work. Minnesota has some of the best hitters in the country and a serviceable back court. They have a B1G player of the year candidate (again) this year in Landfair. And it feels like they'll work really hard to make it to the elite eight if they're lucky. It doesn't seem like it's a lineup issue in regard to the hitters. The only players Shaffmaster is deceiving with her choices are her own teammates, and it's seeming more and more likely that it's not a question of coaching. It's Katie Schau all over again from 2014. You take basically the same team and replace their setter and you go from not making the tournament to the final four.
I hope I'm wrong.

VB is fundamentally a serve and pass game If you can give your pins 1 on 1 opportunities you are a favorite They served with pace and we didn’t pass Aside from Shaff and McGhie (a bit) we rarely forced the Card OOS
We were outplayed in every phase
What lessons will be learned from a shellacking? The 3rd set comeback showed resiliency life signs shortly extinguished at the start of the 4th
