They have nobody else that Hugh will use. I think you said it best with “that Hugh will use.” They have other options, Hugh just doesn’t want to try other players. Once you start for the gophers, you almost never have to prove yourself or compete for your spot again. It’s obvious in the way the gophers play. They don’t have a fire to win or maintain their spot. They are coasting.

I sure hope this sweep is a f**king wake up call for these girls! They can play much much better than this. Did they hit the snooze after Stanford and Pepperdine? I don’t know. The Sunday match is gonna be so interesting! It will either go very well or badly.

im excited for this one. Purdue should be better than wsu and Pepperdine, should really force Minnesota to show up if they want to win. if MN plays Purdue the way they did their last two matches, id bet on a Purdue sweep everyone was confused why I said I thought Purdue was better than Pepperdine and wsu... I still do Your comment was confusing. Obviously they need to show up on the road in the B1G against a top 15 team. Also lumping the WSU and Pepperdine matches together didn't make sense, as they played much better against WSU than Pepperdine and WSU isn't comparable.

Match notes showed she started tonight? Yes. Renner has been our all week due to concussion protocol, but was available to play tonight if needed. But Balensiefer runs one hell of an offense. That’s cool. It sounded like this was going to be a “return home but ride the bench” kind of transfer for her going from NIU to PU. She seemed really solid in the one match I saw her play in-person last year. It just happened to be against Wisconsin, so there’s that buzzsaw they ran into.

Ok coaches, time to move MN out of the top 20. No, even if Wisconsin is able to win there Sunday, which would make me elated. Wins against Baylor, Florida, and Oregon, who are ranked, and another quality one over Wazzu, with no bad losses. No bad losses, but they have lost badly.

No bad losses, but they have lost badly. Yeah, style points, but Texas has its best backcourt ever, Minnesota is not 0 for Stanford ever, like Wisconsin is, Pepperdine is really young and really talented, which leads to a huge variation in results, and Wisconsin was 31-1 against non Purdue teams last year (with the other a what is going on here? loss at Maryland). Landfair is back and looking good. Wucherer is playing and has a very high ceiling. I don't see reason for panic there. I hope Wisconsin adds some! . I don't see that happening, though. If the Badgers win, it will be hard fought!

the nerve of emily ehman showing her face on this channel after her hot takes on CC McGraw and Purdue and I'm done The audacity to put CC as the top rated libero is laughable.

I was otherwise occupied during live play but scrolled through the recording Reading this thread was quite worthwhile
1. I don't know how you generate excitement on the floor when things aren't going your way 2. When you can't weaponize your serve the opponents play more in comfort, more in system, and side out at a higher percentage This puts you on your heels as it feels they are taking the fight to you and you have work harder to gain an upper hand. 3. When you spend a lot of court time trying to recover from mediocre passing you suffer more block touches and less effective H%s It's more stressful and harder to feel connected as a squad...because you aren't. 4. From the chatter one would think Wenaas had an awful night. She kept the ball in play 5 0 17. I still think Shaff & Wenaas need toreview Lauenstein set tempo and location. Hanson, when playing OPP, hit more dynamically but probably not more successfully. The rightside connection will continue to improve, but we will all wish it was quicker. 5. It may not be in Landfair's nature but I think she has to develop a more mature leadership posture. I still think she could get up in the air on her serve approach and hit learn the kind of serve that Parra for Texas has. She is wasting her potential talent on the service line. 6. Someone post/share the passing grades/stats. The Gophers biggest problem: first contacts for the opponents are routinely better than ours. We continue to underperform in sideout%. We get in a rut and give up 4 or more points in a row and can't easily dig out of the holes we create for ourselves. 7. It's disconcerting this lack of backcourt competence, but solvable. Too many teams are too strong with extra year players to have suchanemic serving pressure. More pace, more seams, more making the other side scramble to better suspect passes. 8. If our right side attack is a work in progress and we cannot activate the middles better (more than some-teen attempts) McWu and Landfair arms will fall off before the tournament 9. McWu seems like the kind of talent that can take dynamic swings from anywhere. I had visions of Wenaas becoming a Wilhite-like stud on the left pin. I don't think it would hurt to let McWu try OPP if she is willing to go for it.

speaking of Hugh and his avoidance of ballsy decisions, I hope Miranda Wurcherer sees the court for atleast ONE set before the season ends. Obviously Shaffmaster is unbeatable, but Miranda ran such a great offense at Northern Kentucky and id love to see how it goes in game for Minnesota. Maybe against Rutgers or Maryland. Unlikely but still hopeful. Is she, though? alright, i was expecting this one lol. I’m a Wisconsin fan, so I didn’t wanna come in here and start dissing your starting setter. In my honest opinion, Shaffmaster is easily replaceable, but she gets the job done.

I've got mad respect for Dave Shondell, he's fantastic. And funny too - check out this video and skip to the 24:20 mark. Jenny Hazelwood is talking about how well the Nebraska freshman hitters were doing against Texas in the Final Four match last year, and he brings her back down to earth and reminds her John Cook can basically snap his fingers and get any high school player in the country. Salima's reaction during his statement is priceless!

Purdue you now have a starting setter battle: because#4 was outstanding!! Maybe they should run a 6-2 like WI and NE. I kid.
