Ducks in 5

Oregon’s serve receive has been up and down and off from the level it’s been the past couple of years. Stanford has the serving to punish that - or to let us off the hook entirely. I like the Ducks in system, but we’re going to have a tough time with Stanford’s block OOS. Stanford can punish if they get their serve in enough. On the road they are averaging somewhere between 4 and 5 SEs per set. Typically the pattern is one good set of (say) 2 SEs, and the others are 5+. That's plenty of free points. Stanford is also very strong in SEs out of a TO. They might lead the nation in that category. It's Stanford's serving and blocking vs. Stanford's crappy defense. Which will make the most difference? I agree that the Ducks will be tough with good passing, but that's a big if. I don't care about Stanford's SE's, but Francis' presence is a big deal.

Stanford's passing is going to have to be better than it was at Cal. I don't know if Cal is a particularly good serving team, but the Card struggled. To my eye, they passed better against the toughest teams (Minn, Neb - FLA was up and down, as was Louisvile) Maybe they lost a little focus and intensity against Cal. But that wont' work against Oregon.
If Stanford passes fairly well, I see them taking this in 4 games.

Yup....SU 3-1 is my vote in the poll: with one caveat, since I voted before Francis was held out of Wednesday's contest. If Sami returns with 90-95% of her usual efficacy my vote stands. *If not* it's UO 3-2.

Oregon is a good serving team, and that will cause problems for Stan. Oregon should win this, but they do need the middles who are getting the most blocks in this season to be in the line up.
