should be a great match at .....Mott GYM - it's a GYM, always has been, always will be, a coat of paint and a scoreboard doesn't change things.
some great matches from the mid-2000s when Stevenson resurrected Cal Poly with those Kylie Atherstone teams before Stevenson unfortunately took a turn for the worse, RIP. Great sideline theatrics from BG & Stevenson in his Bahama shirts back then, two of the most animated coaches for a match and there was a classic spirited argument they had about resuming play they had the year the lights went out during a match lol.
Dvoracek reminds me a lot about Atherstone with that heavy lefty arm and rocket serve. Then Crosson/Walters rebuilt while Beach went into a funk. Cal Poly has really put a dagger into Beach during Joy's tenure - been the first or one of the first conference matches every year, and Beach had not done well versus Poly to start off the conference. Last year, coming off a win vs ranked San Diego, Poly just smacked the Beach, so would think Beach players better have got the message of the challenge as the underdog this time in that Gym. Poly with a rough non-conference working in new players against high quality opponents, but steam-rolled thru their last week. Two really solid blocking teams, both teams should be preparing/expecting to cover a lot of balls to being coming back. Meredith Phillips may not get the attention of the Middles from IRvine & Hawaii, but she is a huge force to deal with in the middle for opponents.
The winner might hit just 0.120 in this match

POLY's MOTT is not LBSU's Pyramid.,...probably the finest arena design on the West coast. Nevertheless, for playing volleyball it's perfect. With the POLY band and fans in attendance the place can be awesome. I hope the 0-7 start hasn't been too discouraging. I haven't seen the Beach play very much this season, but, expect a challenging affair. Tonite's match will definitely be the contest of the evening in the BWC.

Stevenson did not get a lousy deal. just sad the issues he had and unfortunately he didn't find a way to constructively deal with them towards the end. and the admin in the end wasn't able to be constructive either in hindsight to help out. just leave it at that. He was a great VB coaching mind at his peak.

I worry as a Beach fan going into this road match at Cal Poly. There are a lot of transfers on the team and they do not know how difficult it will be playing there. I hope the coaching staff realize this and has the team ready for falling behind and fighting back. Important match for both teams to set the tone early. Cal Poly needs to put their preseason behind them and LBSU needs to show the conference and themselves that they are contenders for the conference championship. First matches are never make or break but a lot riding on this one.

For a LBSU fan you seem very familiar with SLO & CAL POLY
