It’s only fair to mention Francis as well. She’s a big step up from both Vicini and Smith. Plus she has more visible fire than the rest of the team combined. I’m not watching the match, but I watched all of the Stanford preseason matches. Francis and firepower are not words I’d use together. I think her height makes her able to see and hit angles that others can’t, but let’s not pretend she’s some all American middle out there right now. The word was fire, which I assume means passion, not firepower You’re in Palm Springs, so posting under the influence? Lol

Oh dear. Edison's Menlo Park was in New Jersey, not in California. (face palm). *Announcers who have lived in Menlo Park, CA should know that. We had Hewlett and Packard in Palo Alto, and, of course, Linus Pauling. Yeah, that annoyed me. Gotta say JK and not say nonsense on tv that people will believe.

But I didn’t say firepower. I said fire. She’s the one that shows the most emotion on a team full of Marcus Aurelius fanatics. I’ll also say compared to Vicini and Smith she’s Dana Rettke out there on the block and the attack. But no, she’s nowhere close to an AA. Vicini is actually a great blocker, she gets a lot of touches. She seems to whiff the ball a lot but as of late she’s been great offensively You feel like she’s been great offensively? She looks awkward to me. I think she’s adequate for a 2nd middle. But when she’s the main middle with Smith as the 2nd it brings the whole duo down for me compared to when Francis and Vicini are in there. And it’s not like I think Francis is an unstoppable force. But she’s really tall and physical, and while her slide looks a little lumbering to me, it at least exists. And again, I feel like Francis brings a level of emotion to the floor that otherwise this Stanford team lacks. But I’m spouting this stuff declaratively. It’s only my opinion. If you feel good about what you’re seeing out of Vicini that’s a legit take as far as I’m concerned. I don’t mean to be overly critical. I just look at sets to her as akin to a fullback dive in football. It’s more about setting up other more effective attacks than it is establishing her as a serious threat.

Relative to her play the last two seasons…. she’s been much better these last couple of games but still has a long way to go. I definitely agree with you that this team needs Francis to stay competitive with any of the top teams, neither Vicini or Smith are much of a threat. But they are just enough to keep the defense open for Kipp

Well, gg Stanford. Did a great job spreading the offense around and using all their options.
UW really hurting right now with Crenshaw already out and now Endlsey also out. It's sadly amusing that just a couple of weeks ago the question was whether Endley or Crenshaw should be getting the rotations in the front row, and now neither are.

Rubin showing shades of Burgess tonight She just keeps getting better! I was impressed by her blocking moves especially against the slide. Baird also heated up a bit and she had 18 digs. Another monstrous performance by Kipp. Still worried about lack of middle production tho
