Boyer was a straight up serving sub for Franklin in the 4th set (with UW up 18-16). AnnaMac was a serving sub for Wrobel in the 1st set, who in turn had subbed in for Franklin, after Franklin had had a not-good set up to that point. If I remember, AnnaMac went on the play around the back in place of Franklin at the end of the first. So she was more a DS sub for Wrobel. Hard to keep track of all that happened at the end of that set. Sheff obviously wasn't happy. Right. AnnaMac came in to serve for Wrobel and stayed in the back through the end of the set (which ended before it came time for Wrobel or Franklin to return to the front row in that spot in the rotation.) My mistake.

My mistake. I don't think any UW fan was happy. I had started the match delayed on BTN+ so all I remember is continually hitting the right arrow (10-second fast forward or w/e) in frustration after each point just to get beyond that first set to see if UW would wake up - so I wasn't paying that close attention either.

I tuned in to see Smrek and Wrobel playing in the front row, and then the stream buffered for a while, but when it came back… Anna Max was serving. I assumed that something tragic happened and half our team was in the hospital or something! 🤣

Having watched Iowa against Minnesota and Purdue, this team is dangerous. Another 6-2 offense in a wave of 6-2 and 5-2 offenses. If they can control their errors, they will make a match of this. Badgers shouldn't be surprised.

Amiya Jones is of course the heart of this Iowa team. She was very impressive against Purdue. But I think the keys to success are elsewhere. If Urquhart can control her hitting errors, and if Hinkle can be a little more grounded, they may have a chance. The badgers can be dominating and perplexingly vulnerable this year. They have been a bit better of late, but backsliding is possible. I have no idea if Shanel gets used if the passing goes astray.

For Iowa to make this competitive they need 15-20 kills from the right side combo of Onabanjo & Black combined with the continued success of the middles. VanderWiede had 14 kills against Purdue and 7 vs IU after really struggling earlier in the season. Her points are an added bonus and take some off the pressure of Urquhart. Iowa isn't the best blocking team and I could see Devyn Robinson having a good night (another Iowa kid going elsewhere...sigh😂) With what Iowa does well and what their limitations are, I don't see this as a competitive match. Hopefully I'm way off base and will be going regardless. Go Hawks!

Some of their errors are just at the worst time🤨...In the 20 point range where you just can't make mistakes in tight sets. Drives me crazy as a fan and I would assume the staff as well. Barnes seems to be more Tony Dungy than Bob Knight and that is probably the way to go when you're going through a multi-year rebuild.

I will be shocked if we don't see Shanel tonight. Why? This.

Yeah I think Sheffield's "not sure how or if we might even use her" was just posturing for this weekend's opponents. Will be very interesting to see what happens.

Too much conspiracy for me to digest. Plus I don't think a DS needs much to be prepared. You just need to tell your servers serve her or not to serve her. I believe Sheffield said what he meant it.

I don't know that declining to give your opponent your planned lineup/rotation four days in advance constitutes "conspiracy".

I'm curious to see Shanel's serve. I don't remember and I'm too lazy to look up old Baylor videos. I kind of hope Sheff doesn't sub Shanel in for GG, her serve and play have improved the last couple games, and I love her energy!
