Madison and Iowa City share an indigenous history. Madison is the ancestral home of the Hoocąk (Ho-Chunk) people, a Sioux tribe whose name means “People of the Big Voice.” The original name for Madison was Dejope (DAY-jope), meaning “Four Lakes,” a reference to the lakes that Madison is on/around. UW’s campus sits on the shore of Lake Mendota.
The Ioway tribe, for which Iowa is named, were originally part of the Hoocąk nation, until they migrated west of the Mississippi sometime in the 15th-16th century. The name Ioway comes from the Dakota Sioux name for the tribe, Ayuhwa ("sleepy ones”), which white settlers started using. The Ioway people call themselves the Báxoje (BAH-kho-jay), which means “Grey Snow.”

Interested to see how Iowa's middles fair against the Badgers. The Hawks may need to rely on their pins more this match which isn't the team's strength.

I love these intros from Rainbow! Did not know details of how indigenous societies linked Iowa and Madison.

The debut of Shanel Bramschreiber for Wisconsin. Very interested to see what role she plays and how it affects the overall rotation pattern.

I find it hard to believe he wouldn't use her at least some (but maybe not 3 rotations every set just yet (but I wouldn't be surprised at that either)). He put in Boyer and MacDonald a little bit vs Purdue.

Shenal will cut into Franklin's court time. Sadly Demps will only see the court now when Franklin has one of her chaos outings we have seen on occasion.

He put in Boyer and MacDonald a little bit vs Purdue. Boyer was a straight up serving sub for Franklin in the 4th set (with UW up 18-16). AnnaMac was a serving sub for Wrobel in the 1st set, who in turn had subbed in for Franklin, after Franklin had had a not-good set up to that point. (Interesting that even though the 4th set went all the way to the 30-28 score, even with that 'extra' Boyer-for-Franklin' and 'Franklin-for-Boyer' pair of subs used, they were only at 14 subs used when GG's ace ended the match. Had Purdue gotten that point, it would have been time for the swapping out of the setters and opps, and at that point - I assume - MJ would have stayed in while Demps had come in for Smrek, and that would have been sub #15. But even with as long a set as that was, they had not gotten to sub #15 yet.) Yes, I expect Bramschreiber to sub in for Franklin; how frequently is the question. But we'll see.

Using the example of what I just posted from the Purdue match, I don't think that would be the case. (Barring injuries, etc) I think Demps will held in reserve to the be '6 rotation opposite' in the event they run out of subs late in a set. If Demps previously subs in for Franklin, she won't be available to come in in that role.

I would expect that, if her serve is good, she is at the very least coming in to serve for CC instead of Liz.

If I remember, AnnaMac went on the play around the back in place of Franklin at the end of the first. So she was more a DS sub for Wrobel. Hard to keep track of all that happened at the end of that set. Sheff obviously wasn't happy.
