this is what i meant when I said she gets treated like %*$# from fans. There's so many comments about her... from the public *and volleyball fans* about her being "italian" or what not... She deserves so much better. She's not alone. The same comments go to Sylla, Nwakalor, etc. def. not just a italy problem...look at premier league/champions league matches...wasn't there fans who threw *bananas* on the field at black players recently? they love their black/players of color until they mess up not perform to their unrealistic standards, and then tear them down when they don't its very very rare that anything like that happens in England. Italian teams play in the champions league and most racial incidents i can remember were in Italy. Ps i remember one incident involving one fan in england a few years ago. It was quickly dealt with and univeraaly condemned.

come on this is unfair and absolutely unnecessary not at all dramatic I disagree. I don’t agree with what she’s been through but to give up is never the answer. Those before her didn’t quit in the face of racism. I want her to stand her ground and fight. And you dont think she has? She's been dealing with trolls ever since she's been on the national team, since what 2015 or 2016? She doesn't deserve it and she has every right to say "Im done".

That's not true, lol. It seems to be serious locker room issue. But... some racist mother!!!!###$$$!!!er insulted her on her social media pages: "You don't what they wrote. They asked me why am I Italian. This is my last game with NT!". This makes me want to puke. "You can't understand." [Unintelligible part follows] "They asked me why I am Italian."

They’re millions of black girls, minorities and lgbt that need positive role models like her. Walking away paints a grim picture for those said girls future. I don’t like the message it send to them.

Those before her didn’t quit in the face of racism. I want her to stand her ground and fight. talking about fighting against racism is always easy, actually doing it is hard and Egonu has been fighting against racism in Italy ever since she started playing volleyball...she's still young and obviously could return to the national team, but showing them what they're missing is a way of fighting. A boycott could be more effective to drive the social change she wants to see than just staying with the team and continuing to pull them to wins and prominence. For example, Serena and Venus boycotted Indian Wells for 15 years after their incident and tennis is better for it.

No it’s not. She needs to stand up for what she believes and show the next generation that quitting isn’t the answer. Yes, she should transfer to USA. yes usa URGENTLY needs her.

I don’t like the message it send to them. i do understand your point. But shes put up with it for years. She isnt quitting the sport. If she continues to dominate as a player, and people say why isnt she playing for Italy, that makes the conversation about the problem happen.

No it’s not. She needs to stand up for what she believes and show the next generation that quitting isn’t the answer. Did you see who Italy elected, I'm not sure her life is safe as a black LGBTQ+ woman in the current era. They are literally members of Italy's crazy fascist era which was only in the shadow of Nazis but not much better. Who said she is quitting? She is quitting the country that's not accepting her and let's see what they are without her, maybe she will continue elsewhere The average Italian is fed up with politicians and votes in protest. Each time a different side, rotating. We are as racist as we were last month.

Btw to those wondering I know its literally officials coming for her not just fans, she can't breath in that environment, that's why she wanted to leave Italy in the first place anyway. The government literally hates her and can't stand her and aka so does government TV and media that cover everything, she is literally winning medals left and right for them and treated not even as a human being, no one should have to put up with this stuff in 2022. I don't see this as giving up at all, they should be happy she even showed up and gave them a final medal, she did her part. For 7 years, now it's time for her to live her life. And no one can blame her for that, I think no one that hasn't been going through what she has been going through even has the right to call her dramatic!
