The rules are given in the "Application to Change Federation of Origin" form. The difficulty lies that the athlete must have the "Federation of Origin" change, that is, the sports nationality and the nationality of the country in which he or she wants to play. If Egonu wanted to play for the U.S. she would have to:

1 - Change her residence and settle in the USA for 2 years.
2 - Obtain nationality
3 - Pay 25000 CHF fee
4 - Fill out the documentation
5 - Hope they don't make a fuss in Italy, otherwise FIVB decides.
6 - From approval wait 2 years to be able to play

If she wanted to play for UK I think she would save 2 years. But in UK they don't even know what a volleyball looks like, so...
