The truth is, Cook wants to win badly…but whatever the outcome 9:00 on Thursday morning he will have moved on and his only thoughts about the match will be how can their play improve and did the match allow them to improve. The only thing about this match that concerns Cook is using it to make his team better on day one of the tournament-he hopes every set is a deuce set. This match just doesn’t matter much, and means less than that after it is over on Wednesday night. As they say, it’s for entertainment purposes only. . . It’s gonna be a brisk 50 degrees at game time, so it won’t be a repeat of Huff last night. . , This match doesn’t matter much?? If you know anything about Cook, winning the big ten is huge, and losing this match impacts that. I get your overall point and don’t disagree, but this is a pretty large overstatement. Oh yeah, and it impacts rpi, which impacts hosting.

You are correct, Thursday morning he will be focused on the next game. This match is important to both NE and WI to win the B1G, but more critical to WI than NE at this point in the season. Based on the recent history of these 2 programs, both teams will be super motivated for this game. Should be a great game. GBR! PS Badgers are stinky rodent eaters.

wisconsin has not lost in the field house all year (only home loss was in the kohl center to florida) and this one would probably be a standing room only crowd
tv ratings probably through the roof

I think it's high time UW got a good bead on where they are and where they need to get. This match and the Minnesota match couldn't come at a better time in that regard. They are doing better than I thought they would so far, but 3-4 losses more in the B1G wouldn't entirely surprise me. It might even benefit the team. That's why I'm pretty calm about this match.
But I will have good beer handy.

If you know anything about Cook, winning the big ten is huge, and losing this match impacts that. I get your overall point and don’t disagree, but this is a pretty large overstatement. Oh yeah, and it impacts rpi, which impacts hosting. Actually, after the flame out in 2016 when Cook put so much emphasis on winning the B1G and then we had a really subpar tournament (oh yeah, we won the conference and we made the ff, but had to rally from 0-2 to beat Penn St and we were just empty in the national semis) Cook’s rhetoric about winning the conference has changed 100%. It’s important, but it really means little to nothing, just like Wednesday’s match…it’s merely a means to an end. I’m sure Cook wants to win conference, but his words and actions verify he no longer thinks he has to win the conference. The bigger questions are at setting and getting Hord into the offense. And let’s be honest about hosting, the best wins in the program over the past 15 years, outside of winning NCs in 2015 and 2017, came in regional final wins (Seattle, Lexington and Austin) not in Lincoln. Worrying about RPI, Pablo, Kern, seeds, is all secondary to how the team is playing when the tournament begins…the B1G schedule’s only purpose is to prepare for the tournament…if the cost of winning the B1G is peaking before the tournament, that cost is too high… I think this is what happened to Minnesota in 2018… I hope Nebraska continues to improve on Wednesday, but winning is mostly irrelevant. And after watching the past 4 matches for each team, Nebraska probably should win, but I want a real battle. Nebraska needs to be better on Thursday than they were on Wednesday. Complacency creeps into seasons that get too easy. Winning nineteen sets in a row fosters complacency. We’ll see how it goes…

The best thing Nebraska did to prepare for winning the B1G was hosting the last three games at home. The worst thing Wisconsin did to prepare was agreeing to travel for the last four games.
Regardless of who wins the B1G, both Nebraska and Wisconsin will be far more battle tested than any team in the Big 12. I just don't see either team losing to an Iowa State.

Like or hate John Cook, he is a master at game preparation and he is also a genius that exposing other teams weaknesses. I’m sorry but there is no other college coach that can match his chess playing.

I’m sorry but there is no other college coach that can match his chess playing. I don’t think there is a lot tactically to this match. Just load up the block on the outsides and serve well enough to slow down the badger middle and right side attack. Not that different to past years. There are no weird passing seams to exploit this year and you have to figure out your target on the night as each passer has good nights and bad. I think it will come down the execution of the setters, and the ability of the badgers to hold up the defense on their side of the net. So far, what I've seen of the passing, setting and defense of both teams suggests the huskers have the advantage. But the difference isn't as large as some make out. I also think the huskers have been more consistent. I have a feeling the badgers may pull out some more wrinkles. We’ll see.
