Last Meeting: Wisconsin beat Illinois in 5 sets on October 2, 2022 in Madison. Did you know…?There are two songs called “Champaign, Illinois” - and Bob Dylan was involved in the genesis of both. In 1969, Carl Perkins, the “King of Rockabilly,” co-wrote his tribute to the city with Dylan. Perkins released the song on his fourth studio album, On Top. Perkins is perhaps best known for his 1955 composition of the rock-and-roll standard “Blue Suede Shoes,” which Elvis Presley covered on his own eponymous debut album in 1956. Forty years later, alt-country band The Old 97s set new lyrics to the melody of Dylan’s “Desolation Row” to create their tribute to the city, which they released with Dylan’s permission on their eighth studio album, The Grand Theater, Volume One. Their version of “Champaign, Illinois” achieved considerable popularity. If you die fearin' God and painfully employed, you will not go to heaven; you'll go to Champaign, Illinois.

Badgers in 4 is never a bad choice for this year's team.

HistoryIllinois leads 50-44-1 This surprises me. I’ve not followed these match previews until this year, so it’s been interesting to see how many series that Badgers lead in (or by how much they lead in some cases). It’s a stark contrast from football, where we were so bad for so long that we’re behind to a lot of teams. Did you know…?There are two songs called “Champaign, Illinois” - and Bob Dylan was involved in the genesis of both. Oasis did one too. 🤣

Really? I like Oasis.
Although if you watch the movie Yesterday, they did not exist.

Thursday instead of Friday is one day shorter for GG's leg to get better. But pretty nice to have an All-Conference libero on the bench, ready to go, isn't it!

Bump. Because we should talk about this match more. 1) keep Terry in check to lock down the win 2) get more hitters involved as lead up to the matches on the last weekend and ultimate tourney run

I need to watch the previous match against the illini to remember what went wrong for the badgers. I do remember Mosher going off in the beginning (left handed RSs and middles really throw the badgers), and then the illini basically gifting the 5th set to the badgers via HEs. I also remember feeling not very good about the badgers based on that performance. Oh yeah, Barnes the younger had a very good match.
All that said, I think the illini have had trouble on serve receive, at least when I watched em. They have an OOS baller in Terry, and the badgers at the time were terrible at OOS blocking, but the badgers have gotten better both serving and blocking, and their attack is more solid too. The illini are a true momentum team. If they get some success and start to believe, they can be a serious threat to anyone. If Franklin starts to get frustrated, the badgers can have a hard time.
Nunge is back in some capacity now, I believe. That helps the illini, especially from the service line.
