Badgers looked good in straight sweep. Everybody on the court contributed for around 77 minutes of work. Didn't seem like the Badgers we're challenged at all.
Rutgers hit better in set3, but Wis hit .529, and .414 for the match.
Things are looking bright right now for this bunch.

25 -12 UW on a Demps kill. Demps having a solid match. UW 2-0. Demps was on post match. Extremely articulate. Usually the younger players aren't quite as polished.

That was a good practice match. Badgers were solid for the most part. They looked better with GG I think. maybe because they passed better, and GG was better on the OOS sets. I noticed that GG is communicating with Orzol really well about which balls to dig, but everyone else had a hard time recognizing how much ground she can cover. Likes the connection to Hart, the fact that Franklin recovered from that bad stretch in the second, and that they were consistent as a team throughout. Robinson had a down night.
Frankly, Rutgers was pretty off so I don't think I learned much else about the team and how they'll stack up with OSU and Neb on their floors.

I got the chance to meet Demps when she was a junior in high school. Even at that young age she was poised and confident. I knew then she would be something special for the Badgers and I’m so glad she’s getting an opportunity to shine now. She did very well tonight.

Rutgers is not that bad. I mean, yes, they were bad tonight. But they are not THAT bad.
And why did they convene between sets 2-3 at one of the ticket gates instead of on a locker room?

CC will be great for us next year after Hart is gone, but I could see Hart/Smrek being the middle combo to go with down the stretch. Demps took over for Boyer last year, and I could see Anna doing the same for CC, as long as Smrek is getting set well and continues to crush it in the middle. These next two rounds are a perfect warm up stretch to solidify this lineup, before closing out the season against PSU, UNL, and OSU. This should be a fun couple weeks!

And what did Smrek do today? Absolutely crushed two fantastic sets tonight and didn’t have any hitting errors that I remember. She didn’t get set a ton, but she’s been solid the past 3 matches, hitting just over .500.

Smrek had 2 kills and no errors on 4 attempts, hit 500. Also had 2 blocks. Not lighting the world on fire but doing her job.

Smrek had 2 kills and no errors on 4 attempts, hit 500. Also had 2 blocks. Not lighting the world on fire but doing her job. When she gets on a ball she is great. Her blocking in the middle is a work in progress, though. Still not as good as I'd like it, and not as good as CC despite the size. Badgers look a lot less solid on defense at the net than they did with CC in there. That could change with time. I also feel that CC does a lot of little things right. Smrek makes little mental errors, like getting in the way of the libero sometimes on second ball. Her ball handling isn't the most dependable. Reminds me of very early Hart when Tionna was struggling with a late season slump one year. People on this board kept shouting to give Hart a chance over Williams. I watched them both play in person at Rutgers, and I could immediately understand why Sheff left Tionna in. She was just sharper and always knew where to be, what to do, and what not to do whereas Hart was uncertain many times. I kind of feel like Sheffield likes that kind of player in the middle who keeps the team playing better as a unit. When you are in the middle of the court, so much happens and could go wrong. Hart is now that player, as is CC. It will take time for Smrek.
