CEV has changed the format of the Golden League for 2024 to be more "VNL like": - Each team is hosting one of the three-day tournaments (Friday to Sunday) with two opponents.
- Each team will travel for two tournaments played away from home.
- Each team will play six matches in total with just as many different opponents.
- The 12 participating teams will be be listed from 1 to 12 according to the CEV National Team Ranking as of October 9, 2023 and September 25, 2023 for men and women, respectively.
- There will be one common table to define the final standing of the League Phase considering all teams and their respective matches played.
The teams in 2024 Golden League: - Austria
- Azerbaijan
- Belgium
- Croatia
- Czechia
- Estonia
- Romania
- Slovakia
- Slovenia
- Spain
- Sweden
- Ukraine
(Somehow Austria has been moved up to Golden League too, despite only finishing 2nd in the Silver League... I guess it's to have 12 teams). Czechia will host the final four. www.cev.eu/articles/volleyball/38-teams-to-contest-european-league-2024/Schedule for the league phase: www-old.cev.eu/Competition-Area/CompetitionView.aspx?ID=1591

Looks like Slovenia got moved up to Golden League, despite not having played last year in Silver League. I don't mind that tbh. They should 100% be in Golden League talent-wise.
Croatia also got their new coach already- Igor Arbutina. Looks like he mainly coached on the men's side. It seems like they have big ambitions for the next quad with their young talent doing well internationally last summer.

So how did I miss that Malual was briefly a longhorn? I'm actually embarrassed lol. Anyone know why it did not take?

So how did I miss that Malual was briefly a longhorn? I'm actually embarrassed lol. Anyone know why it did not take? she came in the middle of COVID. when she arrived with Parra, Parra and Logan started on the left with Skylar on the right. eventually JE decided he preferred a third middle instead of what Parra was providing as a freshman and moved to the Logan/Skylar/Molly pin trio. part of that was probably just getting more sets to Skylar. I would’ve liked to see Malual get a better chance at opposite after we moved Skylar back to the left, but alas, I think she started one match just as a “here you go”. after that season she went back to Italy

is there anyone in the current professional game that can do this? insane no I mean, I don't think there's a block in the current professional game where a skyball, 50/50 set like that would only put one blocker up who is well out of position.

Since it was on my mind in the other thread (and with recently the VNL schedule has been released).. I looked at CAN/NED a bit closer. As far as schedule goes:
Canada doesn't play: Poland, Turkey, Bulgaria Netherlands doesn't play: Thailand, Italy, Japan
Advantage Canada on the schedule (imo).
Right now, Canada would need to sweep Netherlands to overtake them. Canada-Netherlands is the second to last match of the VNL for both teams, with both teams having an easy match afterwards (France and Korea). I really hope it as close to a winner-take all match as possible.
Netherlands was actually close to qualifying directly in the China 2023 Olympic Qualifiers. They needed to beat Dominican Republic 3-1 or 3-0, but they lost 2-3.
