Does anyone know what happened to Zhana Todorova for Bulgaria? I know she had an injury before WCH, but she's been MIA since. She was supposed to play for Rapid Bucuresti and then that never happened. Did she retire?

We can't wait to see what you dig up on all four of the Sanders feeds.. even if all of them are done with USA... they'll spill.

Croatia released their 30 player roster for the summer. I italicized some former/future NCAA players and put their schools next to their names.
S: Lea Deak, Lara Stimac, Karla Antunovic, Ana Prkacin, Marija Vrban, Jurja Vlasic (USF) MB: Martina Samadan (Seattle), Bozana Butigan, Ema Strunjak, Mirta Freund, Viktoria Ana Trcol, Lara Dezulovic, Bianca Lulic OH:Laura Milos (Oral Roberts), Natalia Tomic, Lucija Mlinar, Dijana Karatovic, Josipa Markovic, Lea Cvetnic, Ana Burilovic (will be going to Colorado), Mia Busic OPP: Samanta Fabris, Barbara Dapic (Arkansas), Marijeta Runjic (UTSA), Andrea Mihaljevic, Nina Strize, Mara Stiglic L: Izabela Simac, Tia Kovco, Carla Stosic
For those of you who didn't follow the NT season very closely last year, Croatia won a spot in this year's VNL by winning last year's Challenge Cup. The team is led by OPP Samanta Fabris, who is Tijana Boskovic's backup this season in Eczasibasi. Although she only played around 35-40% of the matches this season, she has played pretty well in each appearance, and has also garnered a couple of MVP honors in CL matches. Since she didn't play full time this year, I'm hoping that she is ready for a summer of good volleyball because there really is no backup. Mika Grbavica would be the backup but she unfortunately tore her ACL in January and is out for a while. I'd say the most likely backup is Runjic, who helped Lugano to their best finish ever in the Swiss League, with Andrea Mihaljevic and Nina Strize, two very young, green options, right behind her.
I would say Middle Blocker is also a pretty good strength for this team. Bozana Butigan has been one of the best middles in the Italian League this year for Bergamo. Martina Samadan was a key player in the MB position for Nantes this past season, and Ema Strunjak just helped Besiktas get promoted to the 1st league in Turkiye. Butigan was nonexistent at WCH and I'm hoping that she redeems herself this NT season because she's been really really good.
There is some decent talent in the setter position. Not "top 10 in the world" level of talent obviously, but decent enough. Lea Deak was the starter last season in the Challenge Cup and World Championships. She had some great moments, but also showed some inconsistency and struggled at WCH last summer (but tbh...the entire team struggled a LOT so...). Lara Stimac was the backup setter for Paris SC and had some bright moments, helping her team to some key victories. Karla Antunovic is a young setter that took the starting spot for HAOK Mladost and has played very well for their young squad. I'm a bit surprised Klara Peric didn't get called, but she hasn't been playing due to sickness and Antunovic has been playing over her so I guess it makes a bit of sense.
Croatia is a little undersized at the OH position. Lucija Mlinar almost helped Edremit get promoted this season, and she will likely be anchoring one of the OH positions. I thought she had a pretty decent showing at WCH last year. I think Lea Cvetnic, who has been a starter for Brescia in Italy A2, will be the other OH. Laura Milos, Natalia Tomic, and Josipa Markovic will probably be the other OHs on the main rosters, but I'm curious to see if any of the younger girls (Ana Burilovic, Mara Stiglic) will actually get any playing time. I'm pretty sure they are just there for the experience, but both of them have lots of potential. I'm a tiny bit surprised Katarina Pavicic isn't here but her teammate Josipa Markovic has been better than her so it kind of makes sense.
The libero position is going to be anchored by the young Izabela Stimac. She earned the starting spot last summer when the team qualified for VNL, and also...the other two options are very young and inexperienced so there really is no other choice. I'm a tiny bit confused why Rene Sain isn't on the roster since she had such a good season for Wiesbaden this season, but oh well.
Their match against Bulgaria in Week 1 of VNL is going to be the match for them. I think they have a good shot at staying in VNL, but we'll see. It would be really cool to see a new name on the scene!
My guess at a starting lineup: S: Deak MB: Samadan, Butigan OH: Mlinar, Cvetnic OPP: Fabris L: Stimac
