I respect your opinion as well, but I am talking about the masses of D1, D2,D3 schools, not the anamalies and powerhouses like Texas. For every 15-20 kids that find a home at the top programs, there are hundreds of kids that don't find a home and programs that are left trying to fill gaps. Not saying the the portal is not beneficial. USD and Texas are prime examples. But my point is... did USD fill a gap with another transfer setter this year??? You have a way better handle on the sport as a whole than I do. I don’t invest the bandwidth necessary to even have remotely an educated opinion on it. But I do follow the top teams fairly well because of my interest in Texas, and I guess that’s where I’m coming from. I doubt USD having a challenge finding someone to replace Blossom is making them feel any regrets whatsoever in taking her in the first place. I’m sure you’d agree with that. I also wonder about USD’s challenges in replacing a talented assistant after heading up the freeway to lead UCLA’s program. But in terms of programs outside the top 25 or so, I don’t know what they’re aspiring to in terms of roster construction, or how they’re intending to get there. I’d also suggest that in terms of talking about the portal being boring this year, we’re probably not talking about all the programs you’re referencing that maybe are rethinking their approach to the portal. We’re talking about the top teams and the shifts in talent either from or to them. And given last year’s results and what I’ve seen across the board for the most part during this offseason, there’s a recognition that the portal is vital in constructing national championship contending teams, unless you’re Stanford. Let’s reflect. How many teams relied on the portal to win a Natty. I can think of only 1.

I can think of only 1. well, that’s because only one team can win the natty. he said contenders. each of San Diego (Blossom, Blackwell, Edwards, Allen), Louisville (Lazaro), and Pitt (CBuzz, Gray, Ennis, Dalton somewhat) all benefited massively from the portal.

That’s fair. But none really contended. The USD and Louisville matches weren’t close.

I'm just glad a school like USC is above such things. It must make you feel really special as a fan to know your favorite school would never stoop to such a low level as to accept transfers into their program.

What about their recent national championship in beach volleyball? I bet there aren't any transfers on that team. Or football? No transfers there. Women's indoor volleyball is probably some kind of aberration. It's dirty pool, is what it is.

I would think San Diego, USC, and Hawaii. I believe those are the three schools she recently visited. San Diego just received an OH transfer commitment, so I guess I'd assume its down to USC and Hawaii unless there are other teams in the picture (and if USC and Hawaii ere even in the top 3) I would think USC and Hawaii too. For the opportunity to train in the sand.

looks like Louisville unfollowed Kelley Am I the only one that thinks all the social media follows/unfollows is rather ridiculous. I mean, what are we supposed to deduce from this? Players from Louisville were like, 'hey we need to befriend and follow this random highly sought after player because we really like her', but if she isn't interested in joining the program, it's like, 'oops, ok, I didn't actually want to know who she was, I just wanted to stack my volleyball team'. *shrug*

For the opportunity to train in the sand. She likely won’t get the oppurtunity to train sand at usc. Usc isn’t too keen on letting players play both. May have changed with brad but as far as I know, it’s still a pretty enforced “rule”

I follow the drama on volleytalk. Since Texas fans don't seem to have anyone with real access to inside scoop in recruiting, or at least, anyone who will make regular posts about it, the social media sleuths among the fan base provide the best clues. I wouldn't think it would be as effective as it is, but time and again people have been able to gauge what's going on in Texas recruiting based on social media patterns. I find it hilarious, and I'm grateful for the Texas fans who do invest in that stuff and choose to share it with the rest of us. Is it ridiculous? Sure. But it's definitely become my kind of ridiculous, at least the way I absorb it. I also loved the transferred player (not a Texas player - I think Florida?) who was chided recently for liking a post about her former coach's lineups not making sense. To me it seemed like such a small deal. But to the people who follow these social media interactions so closely it was a horrible faux pas. I liked growing up in a world where these kinds of interactions were not part of our world, but I'm regularly yelling at people to get off my lawn, too, so there is that.
