I would sometimes turn on OSU matches just to study the chaos -- I don't think we'll see a team so good on second contact yet so, so god awful on 1 and 3 again for a while. Rutgers is right up there the last few years, but Balyko is the common denominator. No idea why she hates winning so much tbh. She followed the foreign assistant coach who recruited her. She sure did!

I don’t see it the same way. But I appreciate the perspective. The overall talent level in this year’s portal class wasn’t as high as last year. There are various reasons for that, but dynamics like that are always going to have an ebb and flow to them. It’s too soon to come to any far reaching conclusions as to how anyone in the sport approaches the portal long term, other than it’s going to remain a big factor in roster construction in the sport as a whole from now on. I’m sure there’s been all kinds of lessons learned from last year, but the tremendous success of programs like USD and Texas showed what an outsized impact the portal can have on a team’s success. I respect your opinion as well, but I am talking about the masses of D1, D2,D3 schools, not the anamalies and powerhouses like Texas. For every 15-20 kids that find a home at the top programs, there are hundreds of kids that don't find a home and programs that are left trying to fill gaps. Not saying the the portal is not beneficial. USD and Texas are prime examples. But my point is... did USD fill a gap with another transfer setter this year??? You have a way better handle on the sport as a whole than I do. I don’t invest the bandwidth necessary to even have remotely an educated opinion on it. But I do follow the top teams fairly well because of my interest in Texas, and I guess that’s where I’m coming from. I doubt USD having a challenge finding someone to replace Blossom is making them feel any regrets whatsoever in taking her in the first place. I’m sure you’d agree with that. I also wonder about USD’s challenges in replacing a talented assistant after heading up the freeway to lead UCLA’s program. But in terms of programs outside the top 25 or so, I don’t know what they’re aspiring to in terms of roster construction, or how they’re intending to get there. I’d also suggest that in terms of talking about the portal being boring this year, we’re probably not talking about all the programs you’re referencing that maybe are rethinking their approach to the portal. We’re talking about the top teams and the shifts in talent either from or to them. And given last year’s results and what I’ve seen across the board for the most part during this offseason, there’s a recognition that the portal is vital in constructing national championship contending teams, unless you’re Stanford.

So who is left in the portal that could make big impacts? Gomillon comes to mind… Bree Kelley. But seems like she's leaning to Oregon

Agree, but one could be at a slide OPP spot, and from what I've heard Onye is going to redshirt this season, and play next year. Not sure if that will happen or not for sure. I'd be surprised if Ducks added Kelley too, but if they can make room for her, I'm sure they will.

I've been waiting to see where Paula Gursching (junior - outside hitter - Youngstown State) ends up. Heard she was recently visiting USC but I'm selfishly hoping she ends up at Illinois and fills our need at outside hitter. Heard good things about Rylen Reid (sophomore - outside hitter - FGCU) too but haven't heard if she's landed somewhere yet.

Illinois is not in her top 3 What is her top 3? I would think San Diego, USC, and Hawaii. I believe those are the three schools she recently visited. San Diego just received an OH transfer commitment, so I guess I'd assume its down to USC and Hawaii unless there are other teams in the picture (and if USC and Hawaii ere even in the top 3)
