Wazzu sweeps (even w/out a poll yet). The Cougs move on: survive and advance, survive and advance.

Interestingly WSU lost to UNLV last year when UNLV's Hayden dominated them. Without her, and a better gelled WSU team this year, WSU should win this, though could go at least 4.

Washington State is making their 17th NCAA tournament appearance and 7th consecutive. The Cougars are 51-56 (.477) in sets played, reaching the Elite Eight in 1996 and 2002, and the Sweet Sixteen in 1997 and 2018.
UNLV is making their 4th NCAA tournament appearance and first since Spring 2021. The Rebels are 8-11 (.421) in sets played winning first round matches in 2016 and Spring 2021.

This match up would have had much more intrigue about a week ago but UNLV is trending downward after being upset and surprised in the MWC championships and not even really making a match of it against Utah State. They were cruising and weren’t really competitive in that match.
UNLV is still a good team and I hope they can offer a good fight but Washington State is a very tough squad. Definitely will be tuning in.

Interestingly, UNLV has a WSU transfer on their roster, who didn't really play at WSU. Jenna Howard transferred from WSU to UNLV, though looks like she didn't play this season at all for UNLV either. She probably didn't anticipate a high level setter taking her chance at playing, when Gabriel transferred to UNLV too.

I'm a Jhenna stan, so y'all watch out. There's no pressure of expectation on the UNLV team, that frees them up to come out swinging.

Washington State is going to serve UNLV out of system a lot, and their block is solid. If both teams are playing to potential, this is a sweep for WSU.
