Folks in this thread seem to presume that Illinois is out no matter what. Beating Minnesota, finishing 5th outright in the B1G, and finishing 18-12 overall isn't enough? What are the "worst" teams in RPI to ever get an at-large bid? Surely Illinois wouldn't be a huge outlier if they make it. With the committee heavily weighing RPI for at-large bids, the cut off is usually high 40’s. The best we can do is finish is high 60’s-low 70’s. Tamas is gonna have to put on the best sales pitch of his life to get us in.

I'm going to be logging out of my account here on Volleytalk. I find a lot more enjoyment discussing Illini vball (and saying what I want about Big Ten volleyball) within my inner circle than I do going back and forth with some of the people on these threads (none of you great folks!)...if you can't tell I have some trouble always needing to have the last word LOL. I'll try to login every once and awhile to check DM's, so feel free to DM me if you want to chat! You guys have been great and it has been an absolute pleasure reading and communicating with all of you Illini fans over the course of this season. Let's finish this out strong and go into next year with some momentum. GO ILLINI!!!

I totally understand the impulse to leave, as the VT exchanges can be contentious at times. I think all us Illinois fans would hope you'd stick around, though. You've added a lot to the conversation and it's been nice having you weigh in with your takes about the team's performance. I guess I'm just hoping if you have to log off it's just for a breather : )
Either way, thanks for contributing to the conversation, we'll hope you'll be back soon, and have a happy Thanksgiving... and go Illini, of course!

If we beat Minnesota and NU we will finish 5th in the B1G ahead of Minnesota. Our overall record, ignoring opponents for a moment, will give us a better overall winning percentage than Minnesota. If Minnesota loses its last match to Nebraska, they will be a full two games behind the Illini in the B1G. If they take Minnesota but not the Illini the optics are terrible and expose the weakness of the RPI as the sole determinant of at large bids., If they don’t take either Minnesota or Illinois the B1G will only have four teams in the tourney.
Not rewarding young teams that progress during the year above and beyond the competition is just wrong. It penalizes good coaching/teaching and encourages teams to raid other teams for older transfers rather than developing young talent.

A few years ago, I realized that there are more than a few members who simply like to argue, criticize and gloat. I eventually learned not to take the bait and stopped responding to certain members. I hope you will eventually return - this site needs more members like you who are knowledgeable about the game and respectful of players and their fans.

Congrats to Brooke on receiving her second VolleyTalk Big Ten Setter of the Week award this season! To me, the VT committee awards mean more than the official conference awards that come out each week because our VTers really do care about doing a good job evaluating players of the week. Who knows how the conference arrives at their award selections each week : ). Regardless, Brooke is very deserving of the recognition!

It penalizes good coaching/teaching and encourages teams to raid other teams for older transfers rather than developing young talent. That's exactly where I'm at. And RPI is hot trash somehow this year. LSU is ahead of the Illini with an 11-15 record? Northwestern is ahead of the Illini at 13-15? It makes no sense. And is the committee only going to put 4 B1G teams in, potentially giving all 4 B1G teams home court in the opening rounds? Would be bizarre. I don't care how far down the B1G is this year, there's no scenario where this league should produce less than 5 bids, and the Illini are going to finish 5th outright.

And for what it's worth, Massey has Illinois ranked 51

As much as I want to see more than 4 teams in the NCAAs this year, the Big Ten does not deserve more than 4 teams to be in the NCAAs this year due to their weak pre-conference records. The NCAA also does not choose based on conference records or standings. They use the overall record.

There are a number of teams RPI ranked considerably higher than Illinois right now...that feel the RPI is unfair too, and are closer to the bubble, but also possibly looking from the outside in (close to making it in, but decent chance they won't as of now) ...and they deserve the NCAA Tourney even more than Illinois (Colorado State, Wichita State, Colorado, Washington, Hawaii, LBSU, etc.).... so there is that.

You're welcome. Seems a few don't understand that.

To be clear, I was being sarcastic.
