Thanks, Exit237a! The thread looks great!
We currently only have 7 total hitters on the roster (4 pins and 3 middles). It would be great if Collins returns for another season and remains healthy. Regardless, we'll definitely need to pick 2-3 more hitters in the portal. It's early and I'm sure there will be several players interested in transferring to Illinois, but Thomas-Ailara and Dodson would be excellent additions who would give us a couple of more experienced upperclassmen. As it stands, it's a fairly young team.

Great pic of Huff South to North view. Now we need a pic of Huff North to South with the video board installed this season.

Huff could actually be an awesome venue with a major architectural do-over that would draw recruits instead of drive them away. And it's already in the best possible location on campus for students to get to. Josh, here you go:
1) Evict all the current Health Sciences offices and other WW1-era classrooms from the entire building. Rename it Huff Performance Center (HPC). (You can add "Tamas Court" on the floor a few years later after the first of several national titles.)
2) Blow out the South wall entirely adding new tiered seating below and luxury viewing suites at the top, for recruits and their parents, big-hitter donors, and NCAA/B1G, and other special guests.
3) Blow the roof totally off and replace with translucent dome letting in filtered light in daytime and skyview at night. Design ceiling with exposed colorful blue/orange ducting for air-effing-conditioning! And for Joshsakes get rid of the stupid pillars to provide unobstructed views everywhere. This kind of engineering has been possible for quite a while...in case the WW1 architects (possibly still entombed in Huff's walls) didn't know it then.
4) Dynamite the current basement/black hole of Calcutta "team room and weight training dungeon". Instead build a glass-walled "Athletic Atrium & Development Center" where the current back parking lot sits, for computer-facilitated study and video review offices, private lockers (including for visitors so they'll want to transfer here someday when they get better), weight/training/nutrition center, and meditation garden. And connect this AADC to Huff via a skyway walkway that drops into Huff from above near the North giant video board for the team's grand entrance every game. Seriously, you need imagination and some marketing pizzazz more than you need money.
You're welcome. And Josh, if you build it, they (recruits, national championships, sellouts, TV $$$) will come.

Unfortunately, the parking lot behind Huff is being used to build a new building for the College of Business online offerings. vbkahunaThey are building a new parking deck down by the Smith Center. It was fenced off today when I drove by.

I learnt the game in the 80's at Illinois and think of those days a lot this time of year. Hopefully next year is brighter, and hopefully the right decisions are made re facilities and location so that the Illini can compete at the top of the Big Ten.

It was fenced off today when I drove by. See, I told you there's no shortage of funds to build new buildings...just not for Illini VB. But since I have no shortage of imagination for the use of those funds, forget the parking lot...and take over the entire Armory across the street for the now-expanded HPC, Atrium, Fighting Illini Casino (for guaranteed fund-raising), and Heliport... (Jeez. I can see that I'm going to have to draw a map with IKEA-like step by step instructions here...)

1st Guess the 2023 Line-Up. OH: Raina, Taylor MB: Sarah, Gabby OPP: Burbage S: Mosher L: Barnes DS: Barry Wild card: Transfers - OH, MB i’d wouldn’t be surprised if tamas tries picking up another quality setter and running mosher all the way around. how could he take her away from the offense when she did so well this year!

During a recent interview (either on an AM 1400 pregame/postgame spot or the NG SportsTalk podcast), Tamas made a remark while talking about Brooke that seemed to leave the door open to her hitting in the future. I took it to mean that a 6-2 with Brooke playing all the way around was what he was alluding to. If I get a chance to search for the quote and can find it, I'll post it here. I've seen Bianca May set during some pregame warmups and she's got some nice hands. She went through full warmups the past few matches and had kneepads on- think she's finally healthy. Either Bianca or Maya Imoto-Eakin could set in a 6-2 when Brooke rotates to the front row.
