Saw on Insta that Jordan was showing up at the recent Jr. Qualifier. Did anyone happen to see if she wearing a knee brace or not? Her injury was back in Dec & I know she had surgery. Wondering how recovery is going.

From what I understand about her injury, I wouldn’t expect her to start moving beyond basic physical therapy until mid-summer.

Welcome Vanessa, I think she will be a great addition to the team. Where does this leave our current rookie Lily or Barnes? Assume with Taylor only playing 3 rotations Vanessa is her backcourt? Interested to see how this all flushes out and seeing Vanessa’s experience beside Barnes. Could be just what we need

It will be interesting to see if Kayla plays 6 rotations. If she does, one of the DSs does not play. Lily apparently had a terrific spring and brings a lot to the court, it is hard to believe she won’t play. My guess is Kayla as a six rotation player will be situational. From what was reported, Kayla was hidden in service receive when she was in the back row. With injuries and the like Tamas has never had a lot of lineup options, this gives him the opportunity to be more of a game coach. Now he needs to find another pin hitter. Mosher is not available this year to sub for an injured pin.

She could play back row for Burbage too. Nice to have some options and experience back there!

If I recall correctly, last year Kayla and Raina started next to each other, so that both were in the back row for two rotations. I would love to hear Tamas’ philosophy on whether he prefers two back row attackers or feels an extra DS back there to help with passing is more effective. Coming from the men’s game, where the opposite hitting out of the back row is an integral part of the offense, hitting over the setter so there are three hitters across the front row at all times is something I think he would be comfortable with. On the other hand, when the opposite hits out of the back row slides are not nearly as important in the men’s game and are not run all that often, if ever. With Collins hopefully healthy again and available to run slides a back row attack out of the right side is not as important, which may increase the likelihood we use a libero and two DSs. Personally, until we prove we can pass without the second DS I would prefer the extra passer.

All good thoughts, one unsung hero is Barnes, last year was a huge transition year for her and I think this year she is going to own that back court. The other thing I noticed when I watched the home game was how supportive and encouraging this is with the rest of the team. She seems to have leadership and provides a calmness to our rookies which will be a huge value come the start of our season. My daughter noticed how encouraging she was to TdB when she struggled a few times passing you can feel their connection. I think she is going to have a big impact. Barry will settle in at some point but I don't think she has the team’s trust just yet and is still pretty sporadic. Watch Barnes this fall I think we are in for a hell of a season with her. My three cents worth.

Having that extra passer and player that's used to playing back row floor defense would be nice. I really liked that aspect of the 2018 and 2019 teams playing O'Brien, Welsh, and Kuper. Would be really cool if Barnes, Barry, and Pan form a scrappy back row corps this season. Can't wait for Vanessa to join the practice gym. Are new players allowed to report before August or are there rules against that?

I vaguely recall Tamas maybe saying they had been slated to go on a trip in 2020 but covid canceled it? I could be making that up, though. Hope they're able to go abroad sometime soon!
