I grew up first listening to Chuck, then Jim, and now Kanoa. They each brought something special to announcing Hawaii Athletics, be it High School, or University of Hawaii sports. By special, I mean, something only Hawaii people can relate to. I missed Chuck, and now I will miss Jim. Now Heaven will have 2 very special people there. RIL JIM. The Leahey lineage is special. I recall Al Michaels honing his announcing skills under Chuck Leahey at the old termite palace. I’m sorry to hijack a Jim Leahy comment, but I wanted to add an Al Michaels story. I remember when he went national in the 70s he was on an NFL telecast. The other announcer complimented him on his pronunciation of Polynesian names, and Al replied, “that’s because in Hawaii, if you got the name wrong, the next day the father would be on your doorstep with a baseball bat!” Not the most politically correct statement, but it was hilarious to hear on National TV way back then. 😂

Sounds exciting to watch! I wish a team like Minnesota would be a part of the season opener for 2023. I wonder who RAM will bring in to play this year.

Would not be surprised if Texas and Mebraska are in the arena, since both teams will be in Hawaii for Sand Volleyball matches with Hawaii. Both Nebraska and Texas Sand Volleyball teams are made up of their indoor players.

Oh wow that will do the team a lot of good. Seeing the best returning outside hitter in the country for 2 spring matches is big for season preparation for a big run at the end. Too bad the freshmen won’t get here until the summer at the earliest. All the more reason to pick up a difference maker Opposite hitter out of the portal in May. Give Hawaii options while the Frosh acclimate.

The thunder and lightning duo could be fun to watch.

Their first Beach Volleyball matches are on Friday.

Condolences to Kanoa and family.
Are Wenaas and Booth still going to compete in the spring matches? Curious which Wahine will step up at RS. Was hoping to see a transfer at that position by now. At least we get to see what Morioka and Bamis can do.

For anyone who hasn't been following the transfers this off season, Wenaas and Booth are both long gone.

It will be interesting to see who Robyn puts at Opposite and the other Outside Hitter position. Not to mention who will be the 2nd Middle. Until Hakas and Adeyemi arrive on campus those 2 positions will be up in the air. Hopefully, Robyn does not move Tiffany Westerberg again, and just leave her at Middle. Cause it will not do Tiffany any good if she had to move to another position again.

I think the lineup against Minnesota will probably be: S: Lang OH1: Alexander (DS: Ikenaga/Morioka/Edmonds) OH2: Ham OPP: De Goede (DS: Ikenaga/Morioka/Edmonds) MB1: Igiede MB2: Westerberg/Bamis/Evans L: Ikenaga/Morioka/Edmonds I think the most interesting position up for grabs would probably be the second middle position and maybe the opposite position as well. Cowell and Wagoner will both be on the beach team, so they will most likely not participate in the scrimmages. I do think that they may put Westerberg at opposite if Bamis or Evans is in that second middle spot. I feel that all of the L/DS on our roster will get playing time in the scrimmage as well (unless they really want to test Alexander's 6-rotation play)

Did Tiff play in the spring match last year? I kind of want to see Bamis at MB2 just to see where she is at, but yeah I have no idea for OPP lol

Would not be shocked if Wagoner participates in the Spring scrimmage. The SandBows team will be back on campus that week. She always participated in the other Spring scrimmages, if the SandBows were back on campus.
