Leslie wasn't left with much. Jim handed off to Keegan a lot more than Keegan left for Leslie. It was going to be a down year this year but getting to the NCAA tournament in my view makes it a successful year. Even if we lose in the first round. We just need to hit the recruiting trail hard and re-establish recruiting flow from year to year to get back. I think Leslie can do it. She's got a young staff that looks like they can grind. Hope she can teach that to them. Who did Keegan have during his first year after Jim left?

I'm looking at next season with a good deal more optimism, with Bush, Wilmes, Barton, Endsley, Bays, and Wilson coming back, two "ballers" (Hunt and Haury) coming in, and two more slots available for transfers from the Portal.

Yeah, top to bottom, there really is no comparison between what K Cook started with and what Tui has now. And yet I am seeing steady improvement. Just as important, it looks like the team is cohesive and having fun together. As others have pointed out, Tui's courtside demeanor is also refreshing. Her smile lights up the arena.

Interesting to see some of these programs with 18 to 20+ athletes on the roster. Unfortunately Washington is too expensive for them to incorporate walk-ons. That of course is just my perception. Unless they recently changed this, PAC-12 travel party size restriction is 15. (Unlimited at home.) I think Washington has never had more than 15 on the roster the entire time I've been following them. It's a choice, of course, but I think there is something to be said for having everyone on the team be able to travel with the team, as opposed to having a bunch of players who practice and suit up at home but don't travel with the rest of the team on the road. 15 traveling players on a sport where you have 6 players on the court at one time seems pretty restrictive. It's fewer than three times the number of players on the court. I realize it's apples and oranges but imagine a football team only being able to travel with 33 players. What's the B1G travel restriction?

What's the B1G travel restriction? I don't know if they have one. I'll point out that 16 is the limit for players to suit up for the NCAA tournament.

When you add up starters for O, D, and special teams, the sports are not that far apart.

NFL roster limit is 53. Why do colleges need more anyway?

NFL roster limit is 53. Why do colleges need more anyway? NFL has practice squads, injury lists, waiver wires, free agents. Colleges have none of that. That said, college football rosters ballooned due to specialization. In the single-platoon era (1953-1963), if you subbed out, you couldn't re-enter until the next quarter, or the last four minutes of the 2nd and 4th quarters. You could probably cut the roster size close to half by going back to single-platoon rules, but freshmen weren't eligible to play then either. Single-platoon football was an aerobic sport (like soccer), while multiple-platoon football is an anaerobic sport (like weight-lifting). Nothing like the 3-3 defensive battle Oregon and Washington fought back then!

Well... +7 heading into conference. We'll need to go at least 7-13. What are those projected 7 wins? I'm going to predict: OSU (x2), Utah (x2), Arizona (x1), Cal (x1), Colorado (x1), USC (x1), UCLA (x1). This gets us into the tournament IMO. Any other wins would be gravy. Ok. Looking good so far. Still on track. Just basically just need to take care of things at home. If we can get a preciseness and attention to detail technically and systematically I think it'll go a long way into getting us to the upper eschelon. It's just too loose for my liking.

Nothing like the 3-3 defensive battle Oregon and Washington fought back then! College is also more developmental for rather young players, and has a natural turnover of 25% every year (plus more due to attrition), so if a large part of your playing roster is juniors and seniors, you better have at least a like number of freshmen and sophomores in development to take their place in coming years. I say "at least", because not all freshmen develop into contributing juniors and seniors, so you need even more players to account for that.

Wonder where Keegan would be right now if Tui had decided to accept the opportunity to take over from Jim? Have to believe Tui would have also been successful and would still be the head coach.
