This is a big deal for Mel. Wasn't she at the open tryout? Does this mean that she played so well at those tryouts that they moved her up to train with this top level group? I thought the other athletes in this group were told not to go to the open tryout because they would be invited to this. It seems like it! Mel and Jess Mruzik from Mich/PSU are the only people on the team who were also at that tryout. It seems everyone else just got invited on their own. So they were the only two out of over 200 athletes to be called forward for this training block. Queen sh*t haters stay pressed their setter didn't make it.

Excited to see what she can bring to the team! I know we've discussed her Hitting% woes at Cal, but hopefully on a team with some better pieces she'll be able to have more success.

Looks like they took it down (for now). Hopefully it was not a mistake

Lydia going to a team with an actual setter and not having to take 70 swings a game?! This could be interesting.

Interesting connection that nobody has noted (as far as I'm aware) - Lydia's sister Marin was an outstanding player for Cook's Washington team starting in 2018.

Why? Minny already has two young opposites on their roster. Great to have that sort of mentor, think of the impact Naya had on our team last year. Didn't play nearly as much as Carter and Arica developed but absolutely had a positive impact on the culture and development.

Why? Minny already has two young opposites on their roster. Neither of which have proved they can be terminal starters.

I hope that this turns out like a Courtney Buzzario situation where a good player off a bad team really flourishes once they get on a team with other good hitters.

She’s not quite a CBuzz level player but I think she could be more terminal from the right side than say, Wenaas was last season. Nothing against Wenaas (I’m a texas fan duh) but she clearly didn’t look nearly as comfortable swinging on the right as she does the left. Grote is. As a third option, she’ll be great. She can play 6 rotations too like Wenaas if Landfair, Murr, and Wucherer can hold it down passing.
