Minnesota was fortunate to be grouped with teams that are rated highly by the RPI and KPI, but lower by other (more realistic) polls/rating systems. Utah State is ranked 17th and 23rd by the RPI and KPI, well above the Gophers at #40 and #54, so this is a great opportunity to demonstrate how flawed those ratings systems are. I'm expecting a Gopher win. The match at Creighton should be hotly contested instead of the blowout one might expect if looking only at the RPI and KPI numbers. Creighton is clearly a top 10-20 team on par with Purdue and Penn State, but the way the Gophers have been playing lately gives me hope.

Debating whether a road trip to Omaha is in order. Nice bracket for the Gophers. Better get your tickets…that cracker box gym they play in holds about 2,200… save your money for the regional, Creighton can’t beat Utah State or Minnesota…. Boo hoo again…for KBB That "cracker box" is one of the nicest vb facilities anywhere. Creighton literally has beaten Minnesota.

I have no knowledge of, so no opinion on, the facilities. I do see that the only tickets left are GA, and I also heard from the Gophers premium-seat coordinator that he doesn't know what Minnesota is doing with their ticket allocation. (It ought to be larger than what's needed for player/staff pass list.)

Is there a bracket challenge on VT yet? I don't see anything, but I could be missing it.

Really hoping for a good run by MN in the tourney to quiet all of the “Minnie shouldn’t be in” posters. First up: Utah State
Looking at their schedule, not seeing how their RPI was so high. Biggest win probably against UNI unless I’m missing something.

Biggest win probably against UNI unless I’m missing something. Raw RPI is 25% your record, 50% your opponents' records, and 25% your opponents' opponents' records. Because your conference opponents play each other as well as you, the conference part of the "opponents records" washes out to about 0.50 (every conference-opponent win by team X is also a conference-opponent loss by team Y). What matters most is having "good" record non-conference opponents, and then having the other teams in your conference play "good" opponents. Non-conference, UT State played 28-1 Nebraska25-6 SMU21-8 Lipscomb11-19 Utah University21-9 Weber State20-6 LMU16-12 Texas A&M 16-14 TCU 26-6 UNI12-17 Utah Valley24-6 BYUMost of those are pretty darned good opponent-records, and for the "50%" portion, it doesn't matter whether you win or lose to them.

Biggest win probably against UNI unless I’m missing something. They also beat SMU who's seeded and LMU during their non con but then lost to Fresno State in their conference tourney who was the 5 seed. They're not a very tall team up against a pretty physical MN so I'm expecting them to be scrappy. I'm hoping our block will be too much for them and our pins come out with heavy swings.

Biggest win probably against UNI unless I’m missing something. On the one hand is the "Minnesota shouldn't be in" posters. On the other is the "Minnesota is the most dangerous unseeded team." You'll never actually quiet the shouldn't be in crowd. But I don't see Minnesota receiving the brunt of it, anyway. SFA seems to be bullseye in the pitchfork and torches dartboard. And of the power conference schools, Texas A&M's resume is worse than Minnesota's. Although that's damning with faint praise. My main thing is I'd like to see more subregional hosts upset. I think Minnesota has a terrific shot at providing one.

I had access to the presale, which was to run until 10:00 am tomorrow, but it sold out by mid-afternoon today. The only way to get tickets hereafter is likely to be through the participating schools, who allocate as they wish, or the secondary market. Of course, it can't hurt to keep checking Ticketmaster, sometimes seats are made available after being previously blocked out. Creighton has not sold GA for past NCAA tournaments - the normal GA are converted to reserved seating.
