Alright because I'm a masochist I finally watched the CSU game, and I'm ready to overreact.
Sooner or later we're gonna have to play DeLeye 6 rotations. Lamb, Wilson, and Rutherford cannot pass and it killed us. DeLeye was a very good passer in HS/Club, and even if she has growing pains I think it's for the best in the long run. Rutherford was solid on D and as sweet as the D ball looked when it connected (and Lord it did not always connect), it's just not worth shanks from the pins every other serve. We seem pretty dead-set on 6-ro Rebo though so hopefully we can find a way to hide both her and Lamb.
It seems like Grome always needs some time to get into a rhythm, which is why she struggles a bit to start the year (and in the spring) and is always way better by conference play. So maybe this was to be expected. But yeah not a good game for her.
Looking over the stats I'm actually kinda surprised Tealer had 7 kills and hit .333 because I forgot she was in there half the time. A bit of a non-factor.
Whitworth struggled at times and I thought Tuozzo maybe had some first game nerves. Some overpasses and miscues that hopefully won't be reoccurring.
Don't ask me when a good time to have a service error is but we picked the worst times for them. Every time we needed to go on a run it was a serve into the net.
And we've got to be able to block better. 2 blocks is ungodly bad. At that point we might as well drop 6 back into coverage and hope we can dig a ball.
None of this is to take away anything from CSU, they were great. Played awesome on D, and dominated the serve and pass game. Took advantage of our miscues.
I didn't get to watch the UNC game (Somebody please post it to YouTube, I'm too poor for ESPN+ ) so hopefully this is all moot. Looking over the stats, it looks like we played much better.
