I am definitely one of the ones who was disappointed we went for Schumacher-Cawley, sure. And I get what you're saying. But, there is a long way to go in this yet. One year does not prove much. Got to string together several successful seasons and get back to legitimately vying for titles to meet the Penn State standard. At the risk of being tautological, one year can only prove what you can prove in one year. But, what a first year: 1) first first-year female D1 head volleyball coach ever to make the Sweet Sixteen; 2) matched the 2022 NCAA Tournament performance of Nebraska Head Coach John Cook; 3) matched the 2022 NCAA Tournament performance of Minnesota Head Coach (now-retired) Hugh McCutcheon; and 4) ended with a 26-8 record and the #11 AVCA ranking (preseason ranking was #20). By any measure, Coach Katie exceeded expectations of The Big Brains. By alot. So, yes, it's not a one-year deal, where KSC can disappear into the sunset and rest on her laurels. But that's not her nature anyway. She is a fierce competitor, and, I would be willing to bet, is looking forward to the challenge of Year 2. I, for one, would not bet against her. Is KSC really the first first-year female head coach to make the S16?? What about heather olmstead?? She took byu to the s16 in 2015 in her first season as head coach. Does she not count cause she was an assistant on the team before? Was she a head coach prior to byu??

I've edited my original post to account for that.

More than $200,000,000 raised all time. Let that sink in. Truly amazing. Well done, Thon!

I grew up in Bethlehem and used to work at Twin County Cable, remember them? I moved out West (the humidity in PA was unbearable for me) but visit my sister in Nazareth from time to time. Growing up in the Lehigh Valley... now I know where you get your cynicism from, lol.

Not taking anything away from any other coach, but KSC is one insightful and articulate coach who is clearly competent and up to the job.

Penn State playing Louisville in Louisville as well as playing Florida and Georgia Tech! Ooh, prominent female coaches scheduling each other! Maybe a trip to USD in the works? I wonder if a new 4-year Pac/Big arrangement is happening? The Stanford/Oregon/PSU/Minnesota grouping seems to have completed its cycle with turns at each of the venues now done.

Got to string together several successful seasons and get back to legitimately vying for titles to meet the Penn State standard. At the risk of being tautological, one year can only prove what you can prove in one year. But, what a first year: 1) one of only two first-year female D1 head volleyball coaches ever to make the Sweet Sixteen (Heather Olmstead of BYU being the other -- if there are any others, please let me know -- not intentionally slighting anyone). 2) matched the 2022 NCAA Tournament performance of Nebraska Head Coach John Cook; 3) matched the 2022 NCAA Tournament performance of Minnesota Head Coach (now-retired) Hugh McCutcheon; and 4) ended with a 26-8 record and the #11 AVCA ranking (preseason ranking was #20). I think KSC has been a good hire so far and will continue to be one. Will she win the national title? That's really hard to do for just about anyone. But I think Penn State is in good hands. They have a great program with lots of advantages and have a good coach. They should be fine. I always thought the idea that they'd slip into being an average to below average team in the Big Ten never made sense unless they just made a bad hire. But I don't think they did. Edit: I hadn't even seen the transfers that Penn State got before I wrote my initial post. Things are looking even better than I initially thought.
