Snyder really going to have to step up from being on a bad ASU team. Just not sure how well she fills the need we have at setter, but she does fill it.

Mainly setters and outside hitters. A one and done setter would probably be good because Izzy Starck is coming in 2023 and is a top setter in her class. We are pretty much set at DS for the years to come, and we are set at middle too. Who’s your top choice for an OH? I know you want a terminal pin like Williams but outside of Thomas-Ailara and maybe Mruzik is there one to get? I think the staff might be better off developing Starck and Markley than making them share a rotation and brining in Gonzales or Moore. I honestly would love to see Markley and Starck be the starters next season. Markley showed that she can be terminal, and Starck has great ball control and has always been solid when she has hit. The only position I would truly say they might actually want a one and done at is setter. It just would make a lot of sense with the fact that little Starck is coming in and I’d assume she will likely get the starting nod her freshman year.

It would actually be extremely refreshing to have a familiar face on the outside next season. The last time Penn State had even one of the same starting outsides two seasons in a row was in 2017. 2017: Ali Frantti and Simone Lee 2018: Taylor Leath and Nia Reed 2019: Tori Gorrell and Allyson Cathey 2020: AC Fitzpatrick and Anastasia Kudryashova 2021: Adana Rollins and Erika Pritchard 2022: Kash Williams and Alexa Markley Starck made appearances as an outside in both 2021 and 2022 but she wasn’t the starter for most of each of the seasons, she usually just played backrow.

Markley is incredibly talented and has even more potential.
For Starck, I thought it was smart how the coaching staff played her at DS last season. She looked lost at OH once B1G season started, but playing her at DS allowed her to gain experience and confidence throughout the season. She's got some work to do in the offseason, but it would be great if she could come on big in her 3rd year.
That said, there's obviously room to bring in another pin as a transfer because they just haven't recruited a lot of depth there - 5 pins on team is thin.

She was set a bunch of back row attacks, which usually only happen on a broken play w/a DS if ever. The problem IMO was that she got the yips at the left pin. Had a few great matches and then had problems with controlling her attacks. Without looking it up, I'd guess she had about as many errors as Williams at the left pin, but didn't balance it with the same # of Ks. Gosh if they could solve this dilemma, it would be so great because she's good going all around.

Several PSU players are not pleased with their designated roles. Lots of portal action both ways for this team.

She played exclusively back row for Markley and, while she might have gotten 1-2 pipes per match she was there as a defensive player.
