KCook definitely has a good resume on paper - 4 Pac12 titles, 1 final four, 3 elite eight in 8 years. Multiple AA awards across all positions (except for libero) maintained the program around #10 in the nation except for this past season. That’s a good resume, but not as good as Fisher or DBK who were hired around the same time. The trajectory of the program is concerning though. Even if we disregard the 2022 season, Washington has not been as highly ranked as it used to be. Washington was consistently a top 10 program sometimes top5 in the early 2010s, but it’s been around #8 - #12 the last couple years. Recruiting was another problem. Washington used to be attracting top 20 recruits (Scambray, Dehoog, Tanner, Schwan, Jones, Vansant). KCook was only able to recruit two top 20 recruits in Grote and Summers during his 8 years at Washington. Of course you can argue that the rankings for players arent reliable or the parity of the sport is higher, but these are just some facts to back why some fans aren’t necessarily satisfied with KCook. Yep, Cook was extremely fortunate to have those wonderful recruits of JMac to begin his head coaching career. They provided some good results and should have lead to many more top recruits in the future. IMO he did not do a very good job of developing all of his players as he rarely played others except when injuries occurred, as they did this past year. Case in point, how many sets did Ella May sit out during her 5 years? Hopefully the new coaching staff does a better job of both recruiting and development....and Washington state develops a few more outstanding players wanting to play for UDub.

How fortunate has Cook been. He follows JMac and inherits all his players and culture at Washington and now falls into a top 5 job at Minnesota following the lovable Hugh and will have Landfair and Wucherer to lean on.

To be totally fair, JMac did not have good recruits lined up for KCook. The 2016 class (Bajema, Niece, McPherson, and Onosko) was recruited by JMac and was not necessarily a stellar class. One thing that has been praised for with KCook’s coaching staff is actually their ability to develop players. They turned Bajema, a #91 recruit out of high school, to an AA and eventually a rising star professionally. And Hoffman, a #87 recruit, to 4 times AA.

(Answer: 0) How many sets did Izzy Ashburn not play in this year? (Answer: 0) How many sets did Rachel Fairbanks not play in this year? (Answer: 1) Etc.

Is this the best technique to "develop" other players who may have to step in when injuries occur, as they often do....(see "UDub OH 2022'). Or do you just keep playing your best all the time and hope injuries do not occur?

As I just pointed out, if you look around the NCAA you will see this is true for every coach and every team.

Our backup setters got lots of playing time back row defense and serving including getting a few assists. Late in blow out matches they did get time setting. Keegan went much deeper in using his bench than Jim ever did.

With all due respect (and forgive me for typing this on Christmas Day) but you have asked the dumbest VT question of 2022. So, Congrats! Every coach in the world keeps playing their best and hopes injuries don't occur.

It would be sad if Mansfield doesn't get the job while his little brother is just heading to the SEC for his second head coaching job. gabriel got the nod over mansfield

Met her once and she was super nice and approachable. She's also got those athletic Tuiasosopo genes and great drive. My only concern is can she bring in that elite California athlete of years past. I'm curious to know what hand she played in drawing former and current players to UW over the last 5 or so years.
