Honestly it's going to be so exciting not to be one of the favorites to win the whole thing entering the season. Of course Texas will be highly rated, but the last 3 years it has felt like Texas had the #1 on their back from the get go. I'm looking forward to seeing how next year's team grows into that. 5 exciting freshmen to add to this past year's class. It's sad to see the seniors go, especially Eggleston, but it's exciting to begin a whole new adventure in some ways. Barnes has already been a great addition. Not that you should put her up there, because it's still unofficial, but I'm looking forward to her contributions. Lots of competition to sort things out, for sure. Look, given the astronomical rate at which Halter is improving, I don't think it's a given that Barnes wins the jersey. Look at what Baby Spice has become in 6 months. You give that girl another 6, who knows. Not to mention beach volleyball in the spring will really take her training and skills to another level. That goes for everyone really but our littles will really benefit.

Oooooh, totally forgot about the beach program launching! Hooray
Do we know how this impacts our traditional spring season exhibition matches? Will there still be the usual 2-3 games? Curious to see the incoming players

So if we do go after another transfer, do y’all think it’s a setter or an outside? Podraza would be a great get. Wenaas would be a great get too.
If we don’t, who do we think will start opposite Skinner. With Barnes coming in, you have to think they’ll only play 3 rotations. Parra? Helmers? Byrd?
Do we think Tomkinson redshirts with Phillips coming back? Bunton with O’Neal, Bergmark, and Singletary coming back?
Like basil said, I’m so excited Swindle is coming in the Spring! Gives her a chance to make those connections early!

OPP - Auburn Thomkinson, Fr OH - Sydney Helmers, Fr S - Ella Swindle, Fr MB - Nya Bunton, Fr OPP/MB - Jordyn Byrd, Fr MB - Marianna Singletary, RS Fr OH - Kenna Miller, RS Fr S - Marina Crownover, RS Fr
L/DS - Emma Halter - So
OPP - Devin Kahahawai - So
MB - Deandra Pierce, Jr OH - Melanie Parra, Jr OH - Madi Skinner, Jr+ L/DS - Keonilei Akana, Jr+ L/DS - Reilly Heinrich, Jr MB - Bella Bergmark, Sr+ MB/OPP - Molly Phillips, Sr+ MB - Asjia O'Neal, RS Sr+
+Using Covid bonus year
A bit of a quibble with how you have the juniors listed. Parra, Skinner, Akana, and Heinrich should all be shown the same. All are 2020 recruits who have not redshirted. They will be seniors next season, but they do have a COVID year available to use in 2024. Also to be accurate, Pierce will be a redshirt sophomore.

getting Asjia back for her sixth will be fun
M2 between Bella and Mari will be fun, and I bet Bunton redshirts
I think Parra gets the second OH spot...but will both she and Skinner be allowed to play six? as much I am impressed by Halter, Barnes's stats are otherworldly. if we have Parra and Skinner playing six, does that mean that one of Barnes/Halter benches Akana as a DS? how do we use Akana's serve then?
lots to think about

Gives her a chance to make those connections early! I think JE will be trying Devin. You've seen the emphasis he places on shut-down blockers on the left, and he's said publicly that she's probably our best blocking pin. In terms of the Parra debate, I think (no tea, only speculation) there's a decent chance she will be entering the Portal. She needs exposure and more playing time, including 6 rotations if she wants to play pro. At Texas she's always going to be squeezed between DS littles and big pins, especially with the recruits we have coming- IIRC all the pins are like 6'4". I know ppl keep talking about a comparison to Amy Neal, but the game itself has changed so much - it's just more physical, huge blocks across the net like Smrek. Parra can't go over the block and she's not (yet) strong enough to power through- so her window of opportunity is just smaller. IDK. Maybe she can pull a Chaussee and increase her vertical by 6". But right now I don't see it.

Holy smokes I completely forgot about Devin. Tbh I bet she starts opposite Skinner at L1 with a DS. Then we have Skinner’s back row attack in our 2 hitter rotations and we all know Devin is comfortable swinging from the right in Ro1.

I believe Wisconsin was the overwhelming pre-season #1 the last two years. Even this year, many considered Nebraska as the better team before the season and they were the #1 team in the pre-season AVCA poll.

If Texas comes to Hawaii, let it be in the regular season in a pre conference tournament match next year instead of some meaningless spring training match exhibition.
And I really tried to get myself to congratulate Texas on winning the National title, but I can’t. And I know that doesn’t matter to you Texas fans. Must feel great to be Champions again.

i think the 2023 team will be legit even considering the players Texas is losing. i feel good about the outside hitters, the middles, and the back row AND i am confident ella will be successful

I'll give you a grace period after the Natty, but you better get your sh1t together before the '23 season starts.
