texas has 3 more matches until it's tourney time...anyone want to guess what seed we might get? also where we might land for the regionals? (i know we still have to make it thru the 1st & 2nd rounds)
especially how crazy this season has been & there are more challenging matches ahead for some of the top teams...we have iowa st but @ least it's @ home
it seems difficult to predict but i think we will be a 6 seed (but we could end up a 5 seed with others losing)
so are we going to palo alto, louisville or madison for the regionals?
you never know what the committee will do🤯

One of my favorite things about winning conference championship is the cheeky videos the social media team puts out. Two years ago they had a couple of players casually talking about their social plans while wheeling the trophy to its destination past rows and rows of previous trophies. Then last year they were in their lounge watching television eating ice cream out of it.
The videos aren’t for everyone, but personally I find them hilarious.

Not directly related to the winning of the Big 12, but the other day I was wondering about the video shots they do during the tournament reveal. Since we host Regionals so often, I'm wondering when they say, "And Texas is in the Louisville regional" if there will be just polite clapping in the video they show of us? Truthfully, I wish they skip us this year. Actually, thinking about it, it's usually subdued when we get announced as hosting the regional anyway - we're so used to it.
But this year, no jumping up and hugging and crying. Just down to business.
EDIT: But even in the years we hosted Regional no jumping, hugging, crying. I think we're a bit spoiled.

I'm just so sick of the finals being in "Omaha" when it's really extended "Lincoln". With all the intricate rules that NCAA puts into the requirements (hotel, convention center, cost, walkability) to host the final four, I'm still stunned that Omaha consistently qualifies.
BTW for those who don't know (or care), Austin is going to demolish it's convention center built in 1992 and expanded already once 2002. They didn't realize Austin would be so popular for hosting conventions and then losing business because the site isn't big enough for the bigger conventions. So, they're going to mow down the entire center and rebuild it for $1.6B. Yeah, let's see how that works out.
But still it won't be enough to host a final four because of "walkability to cheap housing" will be an issue. Gobs of expensive hotels have opened up around the "old" convention center.

There are other cities in Texas that might qualify, but they don’t put out any bids. Also, NBA cities are hindered because the NBA is apparently not excited about having to move games around due to an arena not being available for a weekend. Which sounds silly and at least an objection that can be overcome. But that’s what people who know about this stuff better than I do have said in the past. I’ll also point out - painfully - that our last encounter against Nebraska in the postseason ended in a loss and that had very little to do with Omaha. Not to mention the last time we played in Omaha had a pretty good end result, even with a fairly hostile crowd. Omaha has a lot of competitive advantages. Empty convention space availablw at cheaper rates. Hotels within walking distance. A sizable arena with no professional sports to conflict with hosting matches. A local populace that will rabidly support the event regardless of the competitors. I do find the information about the convention space in Austin interesting. I don’t know much about local politics in the city/county, but there’s always been a fascinating and somewhat unhealthy dichotomy between forces that want to see Austin grow and those that don’t. It feels like the convention conversations may have fallen under a similar purview. In any case, Texas would either need to end up as the #8/9 seed to face Nebraska in the regional, or the committee would need to be motivated to spot Texas there whether they should be or not. I don’t anticipate either occurring. And at least as far as Omaha concerns, this year the final four will be in Tampa. Maybe we can see more final fours hosted there in the future. Apparently Las Vegas is going to get even more serious about bidding for NCAA events, so maybe that gets put in the rotation as wel. Edit - oh, and I think it’s the AVCA that ends up being the motivating factor for the requirements you’re referring to. They want their convention to coincide with the Final Four.

uofaGRAD I got excited recently when you mentioned that you were going to be part of a broadcast for a Div I volleyball match. To be honest, I can't remember why I got excited then I remembered. I've always had "behind the curtain" questions and I know that Paul or Karch aren't probably going answer my questions to them.
So questions to you, young broadcaster, if you wish to answer:
1. How did you get the gig?
2. Do you do color or analysis?
3. Is there a need for color and analysis? I've seen one Big12 broadcast (Texas game away) where one guy was handling both jobs
4. I know you were "local" meaning right off the court. Have you been offered remote gigs? Is it impossible unless it's a big national game? What I mean is that obviously when LHN does it, it's local where they're up in the stands with the LHN logo on a banner stretched behind them. But for the last FS1 broadcast ("at" Gregory), it was done remotely from some studios....somewhere. Because when I looked up and behind me, no human beings. Just a bunch of electronic equipment.
5. I wonder about (4) because if you're broadcasting remotely, you're at the mercy (in your analysis) of the cameras, whereas in person you can catch something off to the side. Maybe?
6. Do you want to or can you interview players for both sides to get background for the game?
7. Do you get graded on your performance and then they tell you to your face? i.e. how to get the next gig
8. Do you get to pick from your next gig?
9. Is there a lack of commentators or a waiting list to be on a broadcast?
10. Any other behind-the-curtain stuff I didn't ask that you wondered about and learned once you did your first broadcast?

We already got slapped around at the last reveal, and the factors they cited then in assigning us #7 (lack of top-10 wins) hasn't changed. I don't think we're going to move up. We might move down to 8 or 9. Not trying to be a downer, but let's not delude ourselves.

uofaGRAD I got excited recently when you mentioned that you were going to be part of a broadcast for a Div I volleyball match. To be honest, I can't remember why I got excited then I remembered. I've always had "behind the curtain" questions and I know that Paul or Karch aren't probably going answer my questions to them.
So questions to you, young broadcaster, if you wish to answer:
1. How did you get the gig? I commentated quite a few matches at Arizona last season, but they were all Arizona produced live streams for when Pac didn't pick up the games for their network. I knew I wanted to continue commentating on the side post-graduation, but also wanted to get my feet on the ground at my full time job, so I shot off a couple emails to universities near me and UNT reached out pretty quickly and from there I sent a resume and some clips of me commentating Arizona matches. From there, they gave me three games to do this season.
2. Do you do color or analysis? So technically its play-by-play (PxP) and color/analyst. I did both at Arizona, but all color for UNT, which I prefer.
3. Is there a need for color and analysis? I've seen one Big12 broadcast (Texas game away) where one guy was handling both jobs Need is a strong word. There's games at Arizona I did where I was the only one, but it's always nice to have both in my opinion. Makes for easier commentating, as it's more conversational rather than one person speaking to you for two hours lol.
I have not! But again, I haven't really put my name out there all that much yet. I think most ESPN+ productions, which is what I was on this season, are local.
5. I wonder about (4) because if you're broadcasting remotely, you're at the mercy (in your analysis) of the cameras, whereas in person you can catch something off to the side. Maybe? I feel like it's nice to be able to say stuff like "oh in person it looked like this ___" but I don't think that's a HUGE deal. The other time it's really handy is set location. It's hard on TV to tell the height and width of a set sometimes.
6. Do you want to or can you interview players for both sides to get background for the game? I did not interview players, but I did interview coaches for both sides before every game, which was fun.
7. Do you get graded on your performance and then they tell you to your face? i.e. how to get the next gig No grading, and really not even much feedback in my games. I got feedback from the other commentator with me since they're obviously much more experienced and seasoned than me. Both thought I was really good, which made me happy. The guy I did two games with said he's going to tell producers ever looking for a color commentating role to contact me, which was awesome because I hadn't even asked him to do anything like that at that point.
8. Do you get to pick from your next gig? I'm not 100% sure what you mean on this one, like pick the games I get to do? Not really. Although I'm hoping UNT makes me more of a regular and then I'll have a little more power to preference.
9. Is there a lack of commentators or a waiting list to be on a broadcast? I'm not really sure! I think it may be dependent where you are. The first guy I commentated with made it seem like around here, schools are looking for color commentators, but I imagine if you're working for like Big Ten network, there may be a lot more people trying to be analysts than play-by-play.
10. Any other behind-the-curtain stuff I didn't ask that you wondered about and learned once you did your first broadcast?
The weirdest thing was having the producer in your ear! At Arizona, I never really had that so that was an adjustment. They were good though. Any time you see a graphic, the PxP commentator just gets to read the graphic and then your job is to make a story out of it or add something more to it or explain the why. I think that's what makes the job difficult for some, as sometimes with graphics or coming out of timeouts, you're making something out of nothing.I guess games expire from ESPN+? So I don't have any links anymore sadly. I assumed they stayed on their forever lol.
