How many folks actually remember that Erik Sullivan was an assistant coach at Nebraska for 3 seasons under Cook before he jumped ship and accepted a similar job at Texas under Elliott in 2011? Sully currently in his 13th season at Texas.
I recall seeing Cook and Sully at the Hilton Hotel lobby in Tampa in December 2009 during Final Four week. Guess they were there for the convention. I had to wonder how long someone from southern California would stay in Lincoln (strictly from a weather perspective). Guess Austin was just more similar to soCal than the midwest and he's certainly stayed at Texas as an assistant coach a lot longer than I ever thought he would.

That seems like a simple explanation for something that in all likelihood has a great deal more complexity to it. One of the things I admire about John Cook is that he sends a lot of people into the coaching ranks, both from his players and his assistants - sometimes both. One of the things I admire about Elliott is that the people around him don’t seem to ever want to leave. Tonya Johnson even came back after her stint at Georgia Tech. I don’t know why, but I’ve always found it interesting you can see a young Sullivan in the background of the iconic photo capturing McLaughlin and Cook’s fierce confrontation. I thought for sure Sullivan was going to be hired by UCLA to replace Mike Sealy and was surprised when it ended up being Alfred Reft. Maybe he was never a serious candidate, although that wouldn’t make sense to me. I did have my eyes opened a bit by the recent Wisconsin newspaper article that outlined the salaries of head coaches for top 25 teams. I know Sullivan makes an equivalent salary or more compared to many of them. In any event, I believe Texas is lucky to have him. He certainly has more job security than he would anywhere else, and his kids have had the unusual experience among the children of coaches, of being able to grow up in one place. But there is a part of me that wishes Elliott had put more people into the coaching ranks. It’s one of those conundrums, though. To put more people into the coaching ranks you have to have some level of staff turnover, and there just isn’t much at Texas under Elliott.

To me the short and sweet reason would be he enjoys working with Elliott, his salary is commensurate with a lot of head coaching positios, and his kids get to grow up in the same area rather than moving around a ton. Not the weather.

Why isn’t volleyball played at Moody? I cannot think of a single way in which Moody would be superior to Gregory for volleyball. Everytime I walk into a women's basketball game at Moody that's 25% full or less, I dread the day they decide to move volleyball there. Unfortunately, I do think there are serious talks about this happening. I think they want the alcohol sales and they believe they can get 10,000 season ticket holders. While they might be able to get 10,000 sold, 10,000 showing up night in and night out is another story. We have got to eliminate the Houston and Dallas Texas Exes buying season tickets and not using them under the premise they are helping the team.

Do you know what position? That's a baller of a family. I think all of them are going to D1 schools.

As long as Elliott gets a say I simply don’t see that happening. We might have a showcase match or two in Moody. But moving all of them? Zero chance. I understand increased revenue opportunities, but at the end of the day that’s a tail wagging the dog argument. The reason attendance at Gregory is as high as it is, is because of a number of factors - heart of campus, fun environment, on top of the action - but the greatest influence is that the team wins at such a high rate. Playing in Gregory is a part of that. Take the team out of Gregory and you reduce a significant factor in the team’s success. I feel like Elliott gets veto power over all of this, so I’m not terribly concerned about it.

I think she’s like 6’-6’1 but I could be mistaken not quite, closer to 5'10 - 5'11 probably. Nothing new for Louisville, I think the tallest out the six OHs on their roster for 2024 is like 6ft

I still don’t agree with the point, then. I don’t believe he made a change in his career from Nebraska to Austin because of the weather. Or at least that was the only reason.
