Serious question — just checked Sarah Franklin’s stats vs. Madi’s — if both teams potentially made the Final Four, who do we see winning POTY? Franklin hitting at a higher clip but Madi carries the team more and averages more points per set 5.33 to Franklin’s 4.63. Franklin is incredible in system, but Madi is slightly better out of system and going over the block. Madi is the better blocker and defender of the two statistically (and technique wise IMO). What do we think? Franklin is a stud and I would not mind it going to her, but Madi has quietly had an amazing season and deserves it just as much. I don't see us making the Final Four this year. Frankly, I'll be happy for us to win tonight and make the Sweet 16. An Elite 8 berth would be a real win--and that's where I see the buck stopping, unless by some miracle Houston upsets Stanford and gets the Regional moved to Austin. I want more than that for all our seniors (especially Asjia and Molly) but it took Asjia having an INSANE night to get us past unseeded Texas A&M. We lost a set in the first round for the first time in OVER 20 YEARS We are so spoiled historically, but it just seems like the pieces didn't click this year the way they sometimes do. And that's ok! Not every year is going to be like the 2022 or 2012 seasons While I think it’ll be hard, I believe Stanford is a beatable team for Texas. Some things need to happen, but it can happen. As well as Tennessee and SMU.

If the team can stay present and focused, it's totally doable.

Another note: A&M parents were sat next to the student section. They were VERY (like every point, very) unhappy with Ella’s setting. They were calling a double on almost every ball that had any spin. When one of their middles got called for a double, a few parents got out of their seats and onto the floor to scream at the refs. Lots of “your setter doubles worse than that” and “your setter doubles every ball”

I'm old, so I may be one of the few people on this board who remember this: www.upi.com/Archives/1992/09/15/Sherrill-under-fire-for-castrating-calf-before-game/4336716529600/People do some funny things when it comes to expressing their intense desire to beat Texas. Sellout arenas. Throw the horns down. Burn giant bonfires. Mutilate cattle. Embrace the hate, folks. The SEC teams don't even know how much they're going to hate us over time. But they'll learn. Well, except for Arkansas and A&M. Those folks don't need no teachin'.

Lots of “your setter doubles worse than that” and “your setter doubles every ball” I don't think they're wrong. I just think it's a dumb call. If I'm remembering correctly, the call on the A&M middle was a ball that was returned over the net. You shouldn't be able to double a ball over the net. That can create an advantage because the spin can potentially make the ball come off the defender in odd ways. But doubling on first or second contact for a ball that doesn't go over the net should really never be called in my opinion, unless it's ridiculously egregious. You shouldn't be able to bat it from one hand to another and then up in the air, for example. But I felt like Swindle was doubling a lot of her sets. I'm glad they were frustrated. I hope they went home extraordinarily unhappy and felt like they were completely gypped. Maybe went on instagram and called a person making comments there a douchebag for good measure. I find that quite fulfilling.

I love Madi downnnn and would love to see Texas get another NPOY sooner rather than later (especially since some greats like Hooker/Eckerman somehow never received it) but Franklin has been Wisconsin’s everything. She literally takes care of so much of the trash it’s amazing

by the way, this guy is usually in charge of my section. i've been chatting with him for several seasons. he has the dubious pleasure of telling people the location of GA seats about a 1000 times per match
