I think Florida will be fine. They have one of best setters in the country along with a solid libero. They have a really great freshman class coming in that’s going to have an impact right away like Pitt and Nebraska’s. There are doubts and they loss 2 starters , but they definitely still have depth. Good post, but I think they lose 3 starters - Markova, Beason, and Kelley. Or maybe you wouldn't count Markova -- but I think she was their most consistent OH last year.

This is for sure true, but I think people are still underestimating Sofia Victoria. She out-played Markova through the majority of matches in the second half of the season and has shown the ability to take over matches. I think she’s primed for a stellar Senior year! At least I hope so

I doubt many people thought the gators would be conference co-champion in ‘22 after losing Monserez, Hall, Forte and Ceasar but they were. They recruit well, I think they’ll be fine.

There were plenty of reasons to be optimistic about Florida after that class left, particularly because of some behind the scenes stuff.

Do we know anything about the LSU setting situation? Transfer from Campbell, looks like she ran a 6-2 over there primarily (avg 4.5 Assists/set). And now a question mark at the L with Larkin leaving.

I think all of LSU’s setters are going to get some playing time at the start of the season to see who will lead that position. Mitter from Campbell obviously has the most experience in collegiate play, but nothing like playing in the SEC. Waak got a good amount of playing time last year especially towards the end of the season so clearly TJ trusts her. Lastly Mika Rome is the freshman setter who played on the Israeli National Team. To me, she’d be the favorite to get the start but I think with her being new to collegiate play it might take some time to adjust. I think where we might lack at the setter position is defense. Waak never really showed to be a big defensive force at the net and I don’t believe the same for Mitter. Vondran last year was very good with the block and consistently won jousts, so whoever proves to be best in that factor I think wins the starting spot. Larkin discontinuing indoor definitely is a big blow to our defense. She lead the SEC in digs/set last year and showed much promise. We did pick up Carmichael from JSU who I’ve read is actually a big pickup and was actually targeted by Nebraska out of the transfer portal as well. with her only having one year of eligibility and not knowing reliability of the other DS’s on the team, I would say TJ goes into the portal again next year to find another Libero unless one of the underclassmen (Hemmings, Zamora, Anderson) really step up their passing

Definitely front runner for libero.

Definitely forgot about Markova. I still wouldn’t worry with the way Wise recruits. Also If Flordia plays their youth next year, whew they’re going to be one tall team on the pins.

She frequently split time with Josie Vondran last year. Sometimes in a 6-2, but often (sometimes?) in a 5-2 with Vondran front row, Waak back. Neither player seemed able to grab the reins and keep them.

Did she play a ton last year ? Good enough to run 5-1 or no ? They certainly have the arms to do something special. If they have 1st and 2nd contact problems that could be really challenging with their specific personnel. Anwusi needs to be a high volume option in the middle. Dotson needs some in system opportunities to thrive and arguably their best player is at the Opposite. Larkin was so good in that first contact, they'll need a solid option there to have success. Waak seemed to be used with no real rhyme or reason. In and out at somewhat random times in sets. If I remember right, her most consistent usage was in a 5-2, where Josie Vondran would play FR and Waak would come in and play BR.

I don’t see Florida finishing top 2. Kentucky should be the heavy favorite no doubt. I’d argue a good amount of teams Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia & Auburn have more returning than Florida. Stucky is good but she lost everyone in the front row aside from Victoria.
