I don’t see Florida finishing top 2. Kentucky should be the heavy favorite no doubt. I’d argue a good amount of teams Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia & Auburn have more returning than Florida. Stucky is good but she lost everyone in the front row aside from Victoria. I hope Victoria addresses some of her inconsistencies. If not, my guess is yikes Florida.

Fitzpatrick played at Penn State for two seasons before playing in a limited role at Florida in ‘22. so it’s not fair to say that no one other than Victoria has been set by Stucky. Will they be replacing a lot? No doubt. Some see things in life as hills to climb. Others road blocks. To be continued.

I didn’t watch a ton of LSU, but I’m more excited to see them this year. Did she play a ton last year ? Good enough to run 5-1 or no ? They certainly have the arms to do something special. If they have 1st and 2nd contact problems that could be really challenging with their specific personnel. Anwusi needs to be a high volume option in the middle. Dotson needs some in system opportunities to thrive and arguably their best player is at the Opposite. Larkin was so good in that first contact, they'll need a solid option there to have success. Waak seemed to be used with no real rhyme or reason. In and out at somewhat random times in sets. If I remember right, her most consistent usage was in a 5-2, where Josie Vondran would play FR and Waak would come in and play BR. I really don’t see Dodson playing 6 rotations this season, her defense and passing seemed to really hold LSU back last season. Well, at at least against Stanford… But they didn’t have many options at ds. I can see Jurnee Robinson stepping into that role, she’s seems like she can already hold her own. But if not, the libero depth will definitely help this year.

Pretty good defensively for her size as well!

I doubt many people thought the gators would be conference co-champion in ‘22 after losing Monserez, Hall, Forte and Ceasar but they were. They recruit well, I think they’ll be fine. Florida looked not good this spring and that was with Kelley. They are going to need some newcomers to step up. Florida was hot garbage last spring too. I'm not worried.

Hill is a pretty decent passer/defensive player! Wants to be a libero in another life! 😂 Don’t see her and Flickinger being liabilities for their position if have to play back row.

Oh lordy the thing with her is I swear she hits better out of system then actually in system. I don't think Florida does well if she isn't producing, and god knows we can't pass well enough to have an Alhassan/Kramer 2.0

Kentucky dominates the 2023 SEC barring major injuries. Disagree…I do think they probably win it, but don’t think it’s a runaway. I could see Tenn, Auburn, Ark, maybe also ATM or LSU keeping closer and surprising some folks. A lot more talent distributed in SEC outside of UK/FLA than in yrs past.

There were plenty of reasons to be optimistic about Florida after that class left, particularly because of some behind the scenes stuff.
I believe Florida recruits…

KY & FL - always end up contenders. Recruiting talent and defense development are great.
Ole Miss - mostly freshmen (if I recall) has serious potential. Loved watching their libero.
Tennessee dealt with injuries but finished strong in the back of the season. They were very dominant at the end of the season.
Arkansas - love watching Gillian. Hard to believe she has another year of eligibility. Actually root for Arkie just because of her passion for the game. Her shot approaches and placement are so fun to watch.
GA - Evans is a force to be reckoned with. Love watching her passion for the game.
LSU - Looking at stats, Larkin had great stats at libero. Interestingly enough the main DS, while only playing half the time, had 3 digs/set (also very high), also very solid at reading. Coinciding with that, LSU had the most five set matches and the longest rallies and the lowest block percentages. While defense stats were great, terminating seemed to be an issue. Hard to blame that on back row. #10 (DS) and Vondran added high energy to the court. LOVED watching them play. Seemed like they scored more points with that rotation. Flickinger, Dotson, and Hill will provide an interesting returning combination along with the new recruits.
A&M suffered from injuries with their best players in the back half of the season. Will be interesting to see how they progress.
