I doubt many if any schools in the country rely on students to make up the majority of home fan attendance for women's volleyball. Most schools allow students to attend volleyball matches for free, or admission is included in a discounted sports package. So, they are definitely not charging full price like they are to non-students.
Obviously, it's not my decision to make. But, less home matches (regardless of the reason) means less visits from prospective recruits.
And, if this pattern continues, I guess UCLA can't really sell to the local recruits that they get to play "a lot" of matches in front of family who live in the area.

Received 2025 verbal commit from Mija Bendziute 6'3" OH from Boca Raton, FL Saw that as well, any info on her? Still crossing fingers for Mullen lol I have seen her play a lot. She is 6-3 but also also long and skinny. When it all comes together she can look really good. At times you can still see her growing into her body. Improved a ton over the last year to become an elite player. Passes pretty well for an OPP. Might be an OH in college but her club team has Kelly Kinney and Takoa Barnes at OH so she plays OPP. Short answer is that I really like her. A ton of upside potential. In many ways she is a bit like Hazel. Both are nice players now but you can see the potential for greatness as they mature into their bodies. Tall thin girls can get stronger and grow into their bodies.

10 non-conference matches on the road, and zero at home? Can't say I've ever seen that by any D-1 program. No announced exhibitions, either. They have an exhibition match at Cal Baptist on August 18. Cal Baptist, however, is not having the match open to the public, so UCLA took it off their website schedule. They have it mentioned in this press release about the schedule (2nd paragraph): uclabruins.com/news/2023/6/23/womens-volleyball-womens-volleyball-reveals-2023-schedule.aspx

Very long, hitting over most blocks, from both pins. Steady passing as well.

No non conference matches at home with conference playing home and home. That means only 11 matches at home in a 28 matches schedule. That is really not a good balance. As for testing oneself by playing on the road, it doesn't always work. I know LBSU does that in men's basketball and it hasn't help them as they haven't won the conference in a long time. Going on the road and all that travel could wear the team down later in the season. Got to have some balance.

I don't think UCLA is going to make the tournament or be eligible. Shocker? not really.

Long Beach State Men's Basketball plays lots of non-conference game on the road because they are getting paid to do so. They need that money to support their Athletic Department. UCLA WVB plays non-conference on the road because...I don't know why the hell they do it.

I didn't see her at the NTDP but have watched her play a lot. When it looks good it looks really good. Her highlight reel is awesome. But she is still getting control of her body and sometimes it really doesn't look good. Lets be honest, she is the third option on her club team behind Kelly Kinney and Takoa Barnes. Heck, going into this club season she wasn't expected to start on the Tribe #1 team. That being said she has really improved in the past year. And the upside is huge. But I doubt she was really exceptional at the NTDP level.

I don't think UCLA is going to make the tournament or be eligible. Shocker? not really. What was the point of expressing this opinion? I actually like UCLA. I think having a new coach and losing some key pieces from last year won't do them any favors. To phrase my post, I think they are going to struggle in non-conf with losses to LSU, Hawaii, Pepp, and possibly Indiana. The PAC is going to be the best it's been in a while so I can see them possibly having a losing record or finishing from 6th to 9th while having a rpi that won't make them eligible for the tournament.

Ok fair enough. Especially losing the bulk of their leftside production I’m sure it’s going to be a process unless a player makes a huge jump or the setting really makes a difference. I am rooting for Alfee Reft though, big fan of his and hope he rights the path of the program.
