From a trusted source it’s looking like it’s going to be next week for the new coach hire. I guess when the announcement was made about Mark getting fired it was in the middle of break. Many people are gone and away from work so with this being the first week back things are definitely slower starting this week and next week.

You've identified a serious problem. Low level of local and national press coverage and exposure, I think, is a problem for most of the volleyball teams in the lower half of the Big Ten. Unless its a winged helmet or the mbb team it is hard to get any exposure to the Detroit media. WBB gets some, but all they had to do was have a generational talent and a run to the Sweet 16 to make it happen. And even they don't get consistent coverage. The local coverage from M-Live is a joke as they've continued to hack away at their coverage, and the Detroit press isn't making that 40ish mile drive to AA. Current MLive Sports stories about Michigan athletics: 20+ football, 9 MBB, 1 WBB, 1 baseball I know football pays the bills, but the Top 25 WBB team won today and there's nothing about it. So there's DEFINITELY no coverage/update on the volleyball situation.

It's been so long that I forgot Michigan still had a vacancy.

I put this on other michigan thread. It's been so long I forgot this one existed.
I'm wondering if there is about to be a change in the AD office and that is holding up this hire. The way that JH and Santa Ono announced that JH is returning has left some serious questions about Warde Manuels future. There is definitely something going on. Between football, the hockey fiasco, baseball coach leaving and some saying Manuel didn't do enough to keep him and Hutch retiring from softball rather unexpectedly something is up on the athletic department. Even the way Manuel announced the vb opening was off.

I don't have Dennis Punzel's book in front of me so I may get a detail or two wrong, but when Wisconsin was looking to hire Sheffield, his interview with AD Barry Alvarez happened at Alvarez' house the night before Alvarez was leaving to go to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl. After winning the Big Ten championship, UW football coach Brett Bielema had resigned to take another job, and Alvarez was going to be the acting head coach for the bowl game. As busy as he had to have been that week between Christmas and coaching the Rose Bowl, he took the time to conduct the interview. You are 100% correct.

This is what I stated as my fear from the beginning of this process: Not that it started 2 weeks behind most other P5 head coach openings, but rather it would expose where VB stands in the athletics department and therefore prohibit UM from getting the best coach possible. Granted, seeing the way the football coaching situation has been handled since the CFP and how much the university president has had to be involved, I am now firmly a believer that Warde Manuel is completely incompetent. I had put him in the "does not care about VB" basket before, but think now the "utter incompetence" basket is calling his name.

He did this after having already been turned down twice after making terrible offers to other candidates. This prompted him to up his approach considerably and he deserves credit for that.

That was my hope from the beginning, but based off what I've heard that is not going to be the case.
