They’ve tried to run a 6-2 a couple times and I don’t think we will see that much this year. It looks like Maddie will get the nod in a 5-1. The 3rd setter, Mika, is injured and not playing. We aren’t using any DS’s and it shows, a lot to be desired in back row. The defense isn’t looking great and barely getting by with passing. Hopefully just a slow start. They’ve tried quite a few options at OH. Sanaa has been the only constant and I feel Jurnee will get the other spot. I feel like it’s been a bit rough so far overall, lots of things to work through. I do agree it’s great to see the fans showing up though! No demps?

Demps is playing 6-ro RS. Maybe a step-up from last year offensively. Nothing flashy, but not hurting the team.

I know that there is still a lot more season to be played, but with our current RPI sitting at 63, unless we win out I don’t see us getting a bid for the tournament.
With that being said, I wanted to take a look at the roster and see how different things will be next year.
We are losing the a good chunk of the team due to out of eligibility: Anwusi, Dotson, Mitter, Carmichael, Hill. We also lost Anderson due to unknown reasonings.
Returning should be: Robinson, Waak, Echter, Boyer, Flickinger, Lee, Martin, Hemmings, Williams, Froelich, Zamora, Roberson, Rome & Demps.
We have 4 in-coming freshmen: Lainee Pyles (OH) Briana Watson (OH) , Jessica Jones (MB) & Aly Kirkhoff (L/DS), who are all expected to make immediate impacts. This class is a very dynamic, well put together class and I would expect a lot of playing time for all of them in their first year.
We should have 2/3 scholarships available so TJ needs to swing for the fences in the portal during the off-season. Even though Demps hasn’t lived up to the hype, she was able to pull in a very big name in the portal last year so she needs to do the same again. What areas to focus in the portal is hard to say as this year our struggles are in pretty much every area in one way or another, but we are also plagued with a lot of injuries this year.
I’m hoping Rome can come back next season and take over this offense in the setter position and relieve Waak of majority of the responsibility. I’ve said it before but I don’t believe Waak is a type of setter that can help us compete at the next level. If Rome can’t be that person, she needs to bring in a high level setter that can help turn this team around.
Anwusi has been a rock in the middle for the past 5 years, so losing her is going to be a big blow. Roberson and Lee have both showed promise early in their careers, but I think we need someone with a lot more experience to help step in. We will have Williams back for her fifth year, but I think we need someone similar to an Anna Dodson from UCLA type middle to take over for Anwusi.
Lastly we need to do a complete 180° with the passing. I’m hoping Kirkhoff can be the immediate day 1 starter at Libero like Cianciulli was during her tenure, but there’s no guarantee of that. Hemmings could also fit that role. Zamora will be back from injury but another reliable DS or even L is very much needed to help with the defense.
I’m hopeful TJ can see what changes need to be made and that she can pick up some elite level transfers, while also making sure we’re not losing Robinson to the portal due to her seeing more potential elsewhere after a disappointing season.

I know I’m a little late, but I saw that we picked up another 2025 commitment from Camryn Jeffrey, a OH/RS out of A5. I tried to find some more information about her but couldn’t find too much on the internet. Based on her Instagram it appears there was interest from a number of top 25 programs (Texas, Georgia Tech, USC, Pitt, Tennessee, Kentucky, ASU, Creighton, Marquette, etc.) so appears to be a big pickup! If anyone has any intel, such as rankings and such, I’d love to hear! Excited to see the classes that TJ is building for the next few years. I know that there is still a lot more season to be played, but with our current RPI sitting at 63, unless we win out I don’t see us getting a bid for the tournament. well what a disappointing end to the season, but gotta hope TJ is able to hit the portal hard to fill in the gaps. we’ll need much higher level transfers if we want to be a serious contender in the SEC, especially with Texas joining next year. I know that there is still a lot more season to be played, but with our current RPI sitting at 63, unless we win out I don’t see us getting a bid for the tournament. the defense fell apart before the season even began with Ella Larkin not retuning as the libero. than halfway into the season, the starting libero, Bri Anderson left the team, so the passing was atrocious. also it’s hard to win matches when a freshman phenom is the main and at times the only reliable offensive contributor. I think Tonya knows where she screwed up and will make the corrections this offseason. this is going to be a very young team next year, so hopefully they can get some veteran players from the portal to provide that leadership that I also believe was lacking. Rome no longer being injured and being able to take over the setter position should be a big upgrade as well

unfortunately I wouldn’t say she lived up to the hype of someone who has a national championship ring. I thought she was going to be able to put up numbers like Robinson, but that wasn’t the case. Echter turned out to be the better overall RS and took over the starting spot about midway through the season. the defense fell apart before the season even began with Ella Larkin not retuning as the libero. than halfway into the season, the starting libero, Bri Anderson left the team, so the passing was atrocious. also it’s hard to win matches when a freshman phenom is the main and at times the only reliable offensive contributor. Based on her social media post, Waak won’t be returning to the program next year. Looks like this is Rome’s offense to run unless they bring in a big setter transfer to take over the starting spot.
Rome is now the only active setter on the team and no incoming freshman setter, so we will have to pick up one in the portal regardless for depth purposes

It can be looked at as a little concerning for sure. Also doesn’t appear Williams or Flickinger will be taking their 5th years. That only leaves 4 players left on the team that TJ didn’t have any part of their recruitment (Flory commits). So I’m interpreting it as a clean sweep. Of those players left that she didn’t recruit, Roberson proved herself to have a ton of potential in the middle as a R-FR this year. Echter really stepped up as the starting RS half-way through the season. Zamora was injured this year but got some good playingtime last year as a DS & serve specialist & Martin does a lot off the court such as being a part of the SEC Community Service Team. I think TJ wants players of a certain caliber and ones that she brought on board herself. Based on her social media post, Waak won’t be returning to the program next year. Rumor has it Devin Kahahawai will be looking for a new home this spring. Maybe she’ll wanna team up with a familiar face.

Not only 4 on the roster, but 4 that she didn’t have a hand in recruiting and bringing to LSU. On top of the 4 mentioned, there’s still all of the 2023 freshman class (Robinson, Lee, Froelich, Boyer, Hemmings, Rome) & Demps who has one final year of eligibility. It can be looked at as a little concerning for sure. Also doesn’t appear Williams or Flickinger will be taking their 5th years.
