It's obviously IMO, but I have no desire to go to Florida and likely never will. I would go if someone paid me (i.e. business trip), but since I have retired from my last job, that has become much less likely.
The only thing that might be reasonably able to draw me would be the space launch complex.

The only thing that might be reasonably able to draw me would be the space launch complex. I went there to watch a game. My understanding was that it was scheduled because of players from Florida, although it was in Miami when the players were from the Orlando area. But yeah it was fun meeting the players' families. But the weather was brutal. The humidity was horrible and I mentioned the mosquitos. I wouldn't particularly want to live there, but I've thought of it before if I could find a good job. But these days it would just seem like I couldn't take it with DeSantis making news on a daily basis with his retributive act of the day. His revenge-style government is one where people either love it if they agree with his aims or would hate it if it was someone else doing similar to people of their own political persuasion.

I went there to watch a game. Volleyball? Yeah. Cal was playing at Florida International's tournament. I got there on Monday on a redeye. I knew there was a storm coming by, but I thought that maybe it would change course. And it was really bizarre at SFO because I saw the manager of the San Francisco Giants there taking off his shoes at security just like everyone else. And he was sitting in coach. And not flying on the team charter. I think he has a home in Miami and was taking care of it before the storm and then rejoining the team. Nobody really bothered him though, although I remember talking to him like an ordinary Joe at the baggage carousel. Ended up having my first two night's reservations in the Florida Keys cancelled automatically, but the hotel in Miami I reserved for the rest of the week allowed me to add two days at the same rate. Kind of interesting preparing for an oncoming storm. Everything I had planned was cancelled. But I also realized that weather in Florida was horrible. It was hot and sweaty. I encountered humidity, rain, and biting insects. I actually found the people in the Miami area OK, but then again I remember the warnings at the rental car counter to never stop for anyone after a vehicle collision and to call for police immediately. Still - Everglades was pretty nice. I got some advice from TheSantaBarbarian who was then an Everglades biologist for things to do. And I think I heard more Spanish spoken in the Miami area than English. It was weird at the MIA American Airlines counter where all the agents were going from Spanish to English effortlessly.

I remember the warnings at the rental car counter to never stop for anyone after a vehicle collision and to call for police immediately. Yeah, that used to be a thing in Florida. People would intentionally get in crashes with rental cars. I don't remember why. Not sure if it's still a thing there. I've never been to Florida, but I have been to Phoenix multiple times, and it's interesting how many of the cars are white. Just because it helps reflect the heat, you know?

I was remarkable because we were in San Francisco (or at least SFO), there was the current manager of the San Francisco Giants there, and nobody was bothering him. I'm thinking maybe even people recognized him, they might have thought that it couldn't have been him.

The time I sat right next to Wally Walker and one seat away from Detlef Schrempf at a basketball game, I didn't notice either one of them. It was my dad who mentioned it to me. In a mostly unrelated vein, my mom once got her softball glove signed by Slick Watts. Life is strange. Also, I have been bottling mead today and am more than slightly drunk. Just saying.

Now liberals are so triggered they just can’t bear to travel to Florida. It’s too sunny, too many opinions, too much opportunity. We prefer our own states where the homeless and crime are out of control. We feel comfortable there. The Nancy’s have spoken.

Was there when it rained and driving just got supremely bad all of a sudden because of a lack of ability to drive in the rain. The rental car thing was where some tourists or businesspeople were robbed of their luggage or possibly some insurance scams. It got to the point where they no longer had rental car barcode stickers and identified cars by the license plate alone. I think there was also a time when rental cars in Florida were required to have specific license plates. The other thing I was worried about is that I wanted a vehicle with a trunk and not an SUV or station wagon. All they had for me was something with tinted windows but where one could see into the back. I was worried that my luggage might be stolen.

I was worried that my luggage might be stolen. Was it? When I used to go on business travel to foreign countries, I never got a rental car. But in the US, I usually got one. One of the ways many foreign countries are better than the US is how easy it is to get around if you don't own a car.

I remember my last day I packed everything in the back and was worried that maybe someone would see there was a box and luggage in the back and break the window. It was also back in 2006. I was listening to local radio and the only thing I remember was campaign ads for Charlie Crist for Governor.

This is a sick burn. www.orlandosentinel.com/opinion/editorials/os-op-edit-desantis-disney-reedy-creek-20230402-26iduwntcbfjpclzqu2cl3gtha-story.htmlThis was a foolish, petty and ultimately selfish political vendetta that could have ended up far worse. If Disney executives had responded to DeSantis in the same vengeful vein — by pulling back even a small fraction of the resources the company has invested in Florida — the economic wreckage could have been massive. Instead, company executives and district officials stayed quiet, bided their time and executed a plan that is both elegant and witty. From now on, Gov. DeSantis, save your tantrums for your taxpayer-funded mansion and endless trips to court donors and rally support in other states. Whenever you happen to be in Florida, focus on your actual job: Running a massive state government where people are dying every day of drug overdoses and mass shootings that you barely acknowledge. Where school boards across the state are grimly awaiting the final price tag of the economically reckless voucher bill you just signed. Where insurance rates are skyrocketing and damage claims from back-to-back hurricanes are being summarily denied. Where, every day, we’re discovering more cracks your machinations have inflicted on the fundamental integrity of Florida’s own government. Stop letting your inner Donald control your behavior. (In this case, we mean Donald Duck.) All you’ve managed to do so far is create a situation where Disney has more control, and potentially more secrecy, than it ever did. No matter how you try to play this, it seems apparent that you were outplayed. So take your advice from the Queen (and in this case, we mean Queen Elsa). Let. It. Go.

Watch this carefully. The top four or five Republicans will always be the target of Democrats like bear. Their goal is to tear them down and destroy them so they’re no longer a threat to their power. Just sit back and watch. These people are as predictable as the sun will come up.

Pretty sure the Republicans are tearing themselves apart plenty without the Democrats help!
