Florida is definitely trying to turn itself into the Afghanistan of America. Florida is immensely successful and thriving Mike. People love the freedom, the police protection, etc. Why do you think New York and California are emptying out and moving to Florida. If this is the Afghanistan of America sign me up. That's probably because western Nebraska is worse than Afghanistan. lol

There's an art to it, something you haven't shown that you're capable of mastering. You usually go for the meathead or hacksaw approach, like your buddy.

I mean, even Florida congressmen are comparing the state to Afghanistan!
That clip went viral when it came out because of the priceless reaction by the woman in white sitting behind him. I don't think that is quite how he meant to say it, but she sure got it instantly!

He didn't mean to say it because Republicans usually keep that part quiet.

I believe I was quite clear in my post when I said that "a school" in Florida had banned the poem based on a complaint from a parent. Please show evidence that this is not the case, if you claim that it is not true. A school district (made up of liberal educators) in Florida moved a poem from the grade school library to the middle school library. This isn't a normal definition of 'banning'. And your post was in a DeSantis thread as a way to brand DeSantis as some kind of evil person banning books - otherwise, why even post this in this thread? The complainant asked to have it banned, not moved. The stated reasons, including "hate messages" and "indoctrinate students", appeared to reference DeSantis' stated views about his legislation: "Following woke indoctrination in our schools, that is a road to ruin for this country," he said. "And we're not going to let it happen in Florida." Of course this belongs in a thread about DeSantis. This is exactly the type of ignorant (Oprah?) hate he has been cultivating.

1) DeSantis spends months boasting about how he is removing "woke" influence from Florida schools; getting laws passed making it easy to challenge materials.
2) A Florida elementary school removes The Hill We Climb from their library after a parent complains about it. ("Sending it to the middle school" is in fact removing it from the elementary school.)
3) Blue questions how any reasonable person could see a connection between 1 and 2.

It's the same party that decided a guy who lives in this penthouse in NYC: Is a hero of the "common people" and an enemy of "the elites".

Ron DeSantis and his allies worked to build momentum ahead of a long-expected presidential campaign launch on Wednesday — rolling out endorsements, sleek videos and the image of an alligator lurking just beneath the water on his campaign website.
But the novel “Twitter Spaces” announcement with Elon Musk that the Florida governor’s team had hyped as the culmination of his big day was plagued by glitches in the evening. The live chat came to a halt after roughly 20 minutes of mostly silence; by the time it restarted and DeSantis began his remarks, hundreds of thousands of listeners had peeled off. This self-inflicted wound provides an almost perfect summation of A) The DeSantis campaign to date, and B) Twitter under Musk. www.washingtonpost.com/elections/2023/05/24/ron-desantis-2024-president-announcement/
