Just as I type this - Club V and COAST are the first two teams to lose today - playing what was considered the easier match for the day. Add A5 and Metro to the list of opening round losses. 1st Alliance takes set 1 over Dynasty Who the heck is SCVC? Just glanced at AES and saw they took over #1 seed and Momentum making some moves.

Nelson (1st Alliance) playing well today? 3 SoCal teams in the same pool. They have all probably played each other way too much already this season. Makes for some weird results.

Grace is a stud and was absolutely dynamite against Dynasty today. She will be. A force at KU.

Here is the % of points won for the final 8 teams (original seed in parenthesis):
SCVC (12) - 55.0% TAV (5) - 53.8%
1st Alliance (9) - 53.3% Triangle (8) - 52.3%
Metro (16) - 51.8% Dynasty (1) - 52.8%
Drive Nation (3) - 51.7% H Skyline (28) - 53.6%
1st Alliance has played 3 of the teams in the final 8. Metro, Dynasty, and Houston Skyline have played 2, SCVC, TAV, and Triangle 1, and Drive Nation 0.
1st Alliance, Metro, and H Skyline were all in the same pool to start play. H Skyline beat the #2 seed in A5.

Club V wins their pool - and gets Dynasty & 1st Alliance today. That seems like a bad draw for a team that won their 1st pool? But then TAV (finished 2nd to Club V) - gets KC Power and CoJrs - which doesn't look all that easy either. I've said for years that the draw hardly matters and trying to manipulate your path is a fools errand, because teams always shake it up in unpredictable ways, and that the dumbest thing you can do is expend any more energy than you have to, to get to the crossover. Undefeated through the second pool does nothing for you, and hurts you if you worked too hard for it. I've been associated with highly ranked teams that went 5-0 then lost the second pool, and 7-0 and lost the crossover. I've also seen teams go 3-2 in the first pool and 1-1 in the second, and medal. Some of it is also pure scheduling too. For example, in the second pool this morning, A5 (the #2 overall seed heading into the tournament), and first in their round 1 pool, also drew NKYVC (#6 seed overall seed heading into the tournament, and 3rd in their round 1 pool), and Houston Skyline (#28 overall seed heading into the tournament, and 3rd in their round 1 pool). It stands to reason that it was NKYVC that messed this thruple up by placing 3rd when they should have placed 1st or 2nd in the first pool. However, we all know they are a highly capable team that can beat anyone. So this morning they draw the top seed in the pool, A5, play a grueling 3 setter, and end up winning. This doesn't surprise anyone, surely, but they don't get a break and instead have to turn right around and play Houston Skyline who is fresh as they haven't played anyone yet in the morning. NKYVC doesn't win that match, they just looked gassed. Had Houston Skyline drew A5 first, I think NKYVC would have come out of that pool this morning.

That Metro-WAVE crossover. Heh. I’m gonna remember that one. That is exactly what I was talking about earlier. Wave was 7-0 in matches, 14-0 in games through the first two pools, and what good did it do them? Dynasty Black didn't win either pool, was only 11-7 in games through two pools, and they are easily through to the final 8. They now only have to beat 16th Seed Metro in order to medal. They could not have drawn that up.

In an ideal world it would be cool to see TAV play Cari Spears ex-team from last year Metro in the finals.

They are all still close with each other so it would be interesting how they interact in competition.
