They are all still close with each other so it would be interesting how they interact in competition. Ah. Well in my ideal world, the finals would be comprised of the two best teams of the tournament, not the interpersonal musings of one massively hyped player. Who knows, perhaps both will be true!?

It would not surprise me that you would get a very emotional game if TAV played Metro. Of course, that could be true if the two best teams played each other. But I'm pretty certain there would be some playful trash talking across the net if TAV played Metro. At least between a few people.

I've said for years that the draw hardly matters and trying to manipulate your path is a fools errand, because teams always shake it up in unpredictable ways, and that the dumbest thing you can do is expend any more energy than you have to, to get to the crossover. Undefeated through the second pool does nothing for you, and hurts you if you worked too hard for it. I've been associated with highly ranked teams that went 5-0 then lost the second pool, and 7-0 and lost the crossover. I've also seen teams go 3-2 in the first pool and 1-1 in the second, and medal. Some of it is also pure scheduling too. For example, in the second pool this morning, A5 (the #2 overall seed heading into the tournament), and first in their round 1 pool, also drew NKYVC (#6 seed overall seed heading into the tournament, and 3rd in their round 1 pool), and Houston Skyline (#28 overall seed heading into the tournament, and 3rd in their round 1 pool). It stands to reason that it was NKYVC that messed this thruple up by placing 3rd when they should have placed 1st or 2nd in the first pool. However, we all know they are a highly capable team that can beat anyone. So this morning they draw the top seed in the pool, A5, play a grueling 3 setter, and end up winning. This doesn't surprise anyone, surely, but they don't get a break and instead have to turn right around and play Houston Skyline who is fresh as they haven't played anyone yet in the morning. NKYVC doesn't win that match, they just looked gassed. Had Houston Skyline drew A5 first, I think NKYVC would have come out of that pool this morning. That's what I mean by you can't really predict your path because somebody else (usually more than one) will screw up the draw so that your best laid plans fall apart. I've been associated with a team in years past where the coach made promises to people prior to the tournament that he would rest people and that he would not go undefeated through pool. He couldn't help himself, took the exact path as Wave and lost the crossover with 7-0, 14-0 record. I have always hated this format, where you play 7 matches over 3 days to only eliminate 55.56% of the teams, then you eliminate 50% of the teams in must win matches each round from there. Can anybody imagine college or higher playing 8 matches in 3 days at a high level? VNL doesn't even play two days in a row, right? (Thinking of years past, I haven't paid attention this year). It just isn't conducive to good volleyball, and doing it on those crap floors is damaging to the players, especially as they get bigger and stronger at 17s.

My ideal would be to see the two best teams in the finals, not the teams that were best able to navigate 11 matches over 4 days on really crappy floors. This is my yearly PSA diatribe on just how unhealthy 11 matches over 4 days on sport court can be, especially for the older ages as these girls get bigger and more dynamic.

... Interesting so you dont think Houston Skyline could make the podium? Lets look at their commits. One setter going to Miss State, one going to A&M, one all around player S/OH/RS going to Vandy, one OH going to Pitt, one MB going to Sam Houston, and one going to Florida. Seems like with a roster like that they should be expecting to be on the podium? ... Ballcoach looking good!

Physically I didn’t see any reason why they couldn’t medal and frankly they deserved to beat DN today.
