I got to listen to one of the calls a few years ago. The tournament director flat out told everyone on the call: “we’re going to get the seeding wrong. There’s no way to get it completely right. If you are one of the teams we seed incorrectly, we will be the first ones to congratulate you for proving us wrong.” I really like the unique flow of the tournament. For those who don’t like it, there are other great tournaments the same weekend. Or you could skip this weekend altogether and add a qualifier. Triple Crown NIT ain’t for everyone.

Maybe the best solution is to reduce the number of power pool teams. Most can probably agree on the top 16 to 20 teams in these age brackets. Going beyond that seems to be where the arguments begin with some of these teams. In terms of tournament integrity. Those last teams in Power Pool D do have an advantage over the teams that missed out - they get an automatic bye into the 64 team single elimination tournament. But - those just missing out should be able to get through their pool play and in theory will just end up playing one of those bottom teams in Power Pool D in the 1s round of tournament play. As mentioned before - the major advantage of Power Pools - it allows the best teams to play against the other best teams on Day 1 (without impacting the 'real' tournament). The competition on Day 1 will meet or exceed the competition on Day 3. In the course of 9 games over 3 days - the best teams will likely play 7 of the top ~16 teams.

The last 4 added doesn't necessarily mean teams 29-32. As someone mentioned earlier, it is the beauty of not announcing every power pool team right away. You announce 28 of the 32 and get a tip (call or email) that says TEAM NINJA should be in and the tournament directors recognize the oversight and get them in without telling someone else they are getting bumped. No way they get the top 32 teams right all the time. No way.
I'd say to anyone who thinks they can do better to put their 32 teams from one age group out there in pods of 8 and be ready for the feedback and poking holes in your process.

I forgot all about the 730 am start. Brutal. Especially for West Coast teams.....but, overlapping pools (where you play, then another pool plays) means, while you don't have any back to back matches, you do have some delays waiting for teams. I think their schedule is more realistic than most qualifier schedules...

How the heck did they come up with some of these pool seedings?

Anyone know if they factored in Northern Lights finishes when determining seeding?

How the heck did they come up with some of these pool seedings? Are the non-power pools even seeded or just arranged so that teams from the same region are separated? If this is seeded, there are some . . . interesting choices.

After that it's just setup for geographic separation.

Good question but it certainly matters right in that some pools get matched up with PP A, PP B, PP C etc. Outside of the power pools, the teams are more or less just sprinkled around at NIT. If you have not performed before at NIT, a newer smaller club or are a satellite team from a bigger name club they do not really rank you. Honestly, if you are not in a power pool it’s basically a “prove you are worthy” type of scenario. It’s a great format to put yourself on the map if you can earn your way in.

Annoying when club websites do not provide basic information on their rosters.
Sunshine 18 - no listing of player #'s - let alone player names. Anyone able to share who is on that team? Several clubs do not list player numbers - which makes things a bit more difficult, but no names...
