Vote for who you think will win the B1G in 2023
Talk about anything B1G volleyball related or post conference standings predictions. Good place to chat with some rivals!

4 years in a row. The voters say give them a fifth.
Adding Carter Booth and TTA to an already stacked lineup.
A not entirely unrelated question, is this the year John Cook finally notches up a match win against his former school? The level of ownage the Badgers have had over the Cornhuskers, including an extremely hard fought national championship, is somewhat shocking to me.

The middle of the conference looks to be way weaker than recently on paper. Wisconsin Penn State Nebraska Minnesota Then meh Is that different than last year? Ohio State made it farther in the tournament than 3 of those teams. In a head to head Sweet 16 matchup versus one of them. It’s a shame they couldn’t keep the lineup together another season.

It’s a shame they couldn’t keep the lineup together another season. Ok. Ohio St. dropped off, so it changes composition slightly. But middle was VERY meh last year too (even though the homers denied it passionately).

Better question: Who wins the conference, Wisconsin or the field? Ties go to the field.
Or another great question - who gets into the tournament? If the middle is wide open, then maybe some new faces in the tournament would be good to see. Clearly the four current mainstays are going back, while Purdue seems like they'll stay in, Indiana seems like an obvious dark horse and Illinois has enough really good players that you think they've got to have a good chance of regaining form.

I would agree that the overall strength of the conference was mildly overrated. I remember making fun of Emily’s wild prognostication that the conference winner could have 6 losses! Still, no other conference had 5 teams even remotely as good as the Big 10’s. It’s difficult for me to imagine a conference matching the Big 10’s top 4 this coming season, although we’ll see. But yes. I’d agree with you that at times it felt like folks became a bit overwrought at how tough the Big 10 was from top to bottom.

I’m definitely agreeing with a 5-peat from Wisconsin. Biggest challenger probably Penn State & Nebraska, then Minnesota.
As far as tourney teams go I’d say:
Wisconsin Nebraska Penn State Minnesota Purdue
A real fight for the last qualifying spots include:
Ohio State Illinois Indiana

It hurts that Illinois is just not where they need to be competitively. They haven’t capitalized on that 2018 season/tournament. And the Michigan schools have obviously been a mess.

Penn State over others because of setting. Lots of teams have weapons but they need setters to get them the ball.

Okay, I hate the underdog mentality that so many Wisconsin fans love. I want the Badgers to be top dog, but I know how hard B1G titles are to win. That said, looking at it objectively, Wisconsin will start as the favorite. A lot of moving parts as well, with less proven depth of talent, for Minnesota, PSU, and Nebraska.
