Nebraska has the best 2023 B1G conference schedule possible. They begin the conference schedule at home again Ohio State on the heels of playing Stanford and Kentucky. Then they play on the road the second and third weekends. They get to play Minnesota, Wisconsin and Penn State h/h, and get to play they final weekend in Minneapolis and Madison (or as I call it, the barnyard tour) to prepare for the tournament that begins the next week. The sole misgiving about the conference schedule is that we only get to beat Dave and his misfits in West LaLa once, but at least it will in front of their clueless fans in their repurposed hog barn. Gonna be another great season. Looking forward to the jealousy and envy at every match. First stop in front of 91k+ outdoors… but you all know what that’s like-right? I’ll bet all of you have already made your hotel accommodations in Tampa, so, see you there. 🏐

I’ll bet all of you have already made your hotel accommodations in Tampa, so, see you there. 🏐 Looking forward to see Murray and Beason, but NE is nothing to be jealous about they still can't stabilize the OH2 position had a supposedly really good freshman class of Krause and Ally and the only one that really performed in that class is Lexi As much love as Beason gets, Krause had a better hitting% in each of her freshmen (.225%) and sophomore (.271%) year with Nebraska than Beason did with Florida. That was 4th in the Big Ten Conference in 2022 among all pin hitters. Beason hit freshman year (.221%) and sophomore year (.261%) with Florida. It will be awesome to see them working in tandem this year together. This did earn Beason All SEC. Krause while playing in much more difficult conference and not in her more natural position. What am I missing to declare Beason amazing, but Krause basically not good? Krause and Beason have almost identical hitting numbers. Krause’s .317% career hitting % in 9 NCAA Tournament games is OUTSTANDING! Is it just the one match against Wisconsin skewing the Beason is amazing convo. br]Batenhorst is .170% overall in first 2 seasons (.155% and .190%) , so understandable to hope for drastic improvements needed. As as Murray, we will see. All of the above at stats/facts and remember Cook stats everything, even in practice, as he often tells us. Krause, Beason, Murray and Batenhorst are outstanding players, and will be markedly improved this year.

But as an outsider it was extremely telling to me Beason was just named the captain along with Rodriquez. Don’t know exactly what that means, but it means something.

To quote Merritt Beason “It’s an honor, but it could have been any of us six and no one would have been surprised, we have a ton of leaders on this team.” It is quite surprising given less than 5 months with Nebraska, but in the transfer portal, some motivations/promises probably get made. I am quite certain, vocal leadership will come from elsewhere on this team. I don’t see Krause deferring to anyone, even more fire lit under her backside.

I don’t disagree with the general gist of your post, which is that there’s a lot of quality leadership on the team, but I find it stunning you’d imply Cook promised to make her captain if she’d transfer to Nebraska. I don’t believe that. It’s risky to make a new member of the team captain in the first place. I have to believe the reason he did so is because of something spectacular he saw once she got to campus...not before.

Possibly that she was a captain at Florida and that does not have to change at Nebraska, go for it and see what happens. Any player who is or wants to be great would love to be encouraged or challenged with the possibility of leadership. In all honesty, there are probably 14 of them on this team. The most surprising part of the whole Husker captain situation is why there were 3 captains each the last few years, but this year only 2 captains. It seems a great year to have 3 captains again with 6 of the 14 players new to the team. Hard decisions and maybe Beason’s quote speaks to the fact there is lots of leadership, she’s smart and so is that comment. Alphas don’t grow on trees. Krause is defimitely one of those, by the words of her coaches. But back whoha99 from above, the only one from Nebraska’s class of 2021 to perform has been Lexi is utterly ridiculous.

I also doubt that any promises made during recruiting included Merritt becoming captain. In the final round 6 players stood up and made a pitch to be a captain. The players voted and Lexi and Merritt were chosen.

You’re more emotionally invested in Krause - and the Nebraska program in general - than I am. It has been pointed out to me that whoha99 has some kind of ax to grind with Nebraska in general, and Larson in particular, so I wouldn’t take their comments too seriously. I mean, I wouldn’t take mine too seriously either, for that matter.

Beason took 8 swings/set in ‘22 compared to Krause’s 5.67. Sooo while they’re offensive numbers on the surface appear similar, Beason shouldered a larger load. None of this matters now, they’ll be scary on the same team this year
