The Big Ten should have a season-ending tournament of the bottom half of the league. The top half will already be in the NCAA, and the tourney winner could enhance their chance of getting in/get a better matchup.
And it would still be a better tournament than most of the other poxy leagues out there.

And do it at a location in a large venue. For example, if the tournament was held at the Kohl Center in Madison, I could see it drawing 10,000+ spectators each day. The finals could even be 15,000+. That's a lot of added revenue. Rotate the location each year. Grow the audience. Larger arenas. Think big. It could be VERY successful. I love the idea. Columbus, Madison, Omaha, Minneapolis - those are some pretty good volleyball towns to fill arenas, like you say. It would be fun to try to get into Madison Square Garden, but that's early NBA season, so likely no bueno. I love the idea of doing it at Madison Square Garden!!

The tournament will take 5 days if it’s at one venue (can’t fit 8 matches in one arena in one day). But I think you just play on Thanksgiving. Lots of open tv time on ESPN. Yeah, there’s no rule against playing on Thanksgiving, but with all of the NFL and college basketball games on that day, it emes like it’d be harder to draw in a TV crowd. Your competition would be 2 snoozer NFL games and maybe 1 college football game. That’s far less competition than an average football weekend. That said, I’m totally against the idea of a conference tournament.

Likely Tuesday/Wed/Fri/Sat.

Only 6 B1G teams made the tournament this year, so a team technically in the top half didn’t even make it in.. You’re better off having a 10-team tournament or so and keeping the bottom 4 home. Bubble teams playing each other is generally okay though.

I just think there’s no positive return with a lower half B1G tournament. At least if they get a chance at the big shots they get a chance at a boost in RPI and a résumé builder.

Are you saying that losses could directly affect RPI? I was under the impression that wasn't the case. The Ratings Power Index (RPI) was made up of three components:
A team's winning percentage
Average opponent's winning percentage
Average opponent's opponent's winning percentage

Losses hurt your own team’s winning percentage, which is 25% of the formula. But 50% of the formula is your opponent’s winning percentage. But this point was that simply playing a Rutgers could result you to drop in RPI, even if you win.

But this point was that simply playing a Rutgers could result you to drop in RPI, even if you win. Which is only one of the reasons that RPI is a terrible metric and should be dropped immediately in all sports. But of course the NCAA won't, and in fact I bet the moneymakers are secretly pleased that they have a crappy metric which is easy to talk about, since the debates help their sports stay in the public eye thus generating $$.
