…you’re going off statistics. They don’t tell the whole story. This has been said numerous times. Nobody in the country would take a different libero out of the B1G other than Lexi Rodriguez. You can pull whatever stat you want but it doesn’t change that glaring fact. I don't think anyone disagrees with you about taking Lexi as a libero, but that's not what the award is. It's for the defensive player of the year, and blocks + digs have always been the stats looked at. You'll see that with the DPOY selections, too. The award is whatever coaches think it should be, that seems pretty evident here. You clearly believe it is about digging alone, which is absolutely fine. I believe the origin of DPOY was a way to recognize backrow players who were never getting the recognition attackers and setters were. If coaches still see the award that way, they’re going to look at passing, serving and intangibles as well. I’d be interested in seeing the ratio between backrow players winning vs blockers winning. My guess is that it would be lopsided.

How does Penn State libero Gillian Grimes not get mentioned? Is because they made the the tournament? How can a player that plays on a sub par team make it? Comical!!!

You are absolutely correct. I took your assertion that no one knows your connection with JC and that he’s never been mean to you once, to assume something of you, and I made a fundraiser party joke about it. Wrong of me. We good? Of course we're good. You're good people. I just love when people love each other.

for all of you complaining about DPOY - Emily Ehman said it best. x.com/emilyehman/status/1729556046216110551?s=20Give your praises to the amazing year these women gave and stop complaining about meaningless awards. The only award that matters is three weekends away - on ABC - when the confetti falls and a champion is crowned. The meaningless “wow the B1G is rigged” or “libero vs middle” banter for DPOY, or “Chloe vs. Harper” for FOY. Nebraska dominated the big ten and they deserve their kudos. We get you’re rooting for your roster, your team, your coach, but if they’re not a top 2 finisher in the b1g - you’re not going to get a lot of praise in the individual awards. I wouldn’t have minded if Beason beat out Franklin and Nebraska swept the podium, because they deserved it. But none of this will mean anything if they can’t finish out the season on top. At this point of the year - i’m rooting for any and all B1G teams to finish on top and give the conference their kudos. (as an illini fan - hoping Nebraska takes it all) Beautifully said, I am far less benevolent than you are however. I hope someone takes out Wisconsin in the early rounds.

To see Corns fans chicken out so early is giggling. ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) Last I checked, you guys are bragging with a two-game lead in the league. lmao.

If the conference gave everyone the vote totals would be interesting. You do have to remember who is voting though, the coaches. Plus I don't know how the votes are done. Each coach vote for 1 player, or does each coach vote for their top 3 and it goes on a point system? Either way, guessing the votes are less by stats and more by what these coaches see on the court, on film and how they game plan around certain players. This isn't decided by a committee that is dissecting every aspect of every player. It's by coaches and they vote by what they have seen mainly, less about the stats. At least in my mind.
Guessing most all these votes were close and several probably didn't receive 50% of the votes to win the award. If it is simply 1 vote, 1 coach, then it could take 4 votes to win the award in some cases. All the players that won had 4 matches in conference where they made the difference in getting the win. The coaches might glance at the overall stats to compare players and make sure their vote isn't out of line, but pretty sure most of them vote based on what they see live, what the see on film and how they game plan for teams. Overall stats aren't going to be a huge factor in how they vote. If it were the media doing the voting, then it would be different. Stats aren't as important to coaches from my experience. Wins and what they see, that is how they are going to vote.

Hi Mr. Grimes; Sometimes, there are good players on other teams. "Team makes the tournament" isn't a nomination metric, unfortch. Good luck to your daughter and PSU in the tournament!

"We would like to thank Coach Davis for everything he has done over his eight seasons leading our volleyball program," said Gragg. "We have mutually agreed that based on the performance of the program during his tenure, it is time for a change in leadership. We wish Coach Davis the very best in his future endeavors." "Assistant coach Pedro Mendes will assist with program continuity while Northwestern conducts a national search for the next head coach." This is a good gig!

It’s a great gig and worthy of a head coach who can actually coach. I imagine not many will transfer since it’s such a great academic school, but whoever comes in has a lot of work to do and will need a lot of success in the portal. quote author=" bprtbone" source="/post/3689910/thread" timestamp="1701470860"] "We would like to thank Coach Davis for everything he has done over his eight seasons leading our volleyball program," said Gragg.
