So now the Florida GOP-controlled legislature has voted to give $10M to Ron DeSantis to transport migrant workers from other states to other states.
Like ... WTF? They are giving out $10M of Florida taxpayer money to pay for a stunt to help DeSantis look good to people like Holiday.
I mean, OK, this might actually be awesome for migrants who are stuck in one place and really want to be in a different place. But we all know this isn't about helping migrants. It's about DeSantis wanting to tell the MAGA-hatters that he is flooding "sanctuary cities" with migrants. It's all part of the GOP mythology that Democratic cities are all "virtue signaling" about immigration while Republican-controlled states have to deal with it, but that story is mainly BS. Typically "sanctuary cities" are actually quite welcoming to new immigrants -- which is why they give themselves that label in the first place.

Would love for some of our resident legal experts to weigh in. At what point does this become human trafficking?

Would love for some of our resident legal experts to weigh in. At what point does this become human trafficking? IIRC, the federal statute only relates to sex trafficking and forced labor, so relocation not for those purposes would not fall under the specific federal human trafficking laws. Depending on what's going on, other laws may be impacted, and DeSantis may end up sending them to a state that could have a law imposing criminal liability on it for human trafficking, depending on how the statute is written.

You Democrats want an open border then suck it up you Hypocrites and deal with it.

Speaking of Reckless Ron, check this out from today: The Republican governor’s campaign wanted weapons banned from his victory celebration at the city-run Tampa Convention Center, a city official said in emails obtained by The Washington Post. And the campaign suggested that the city take responsibility for the firearms ban, the official said — not the governor, who has been a vocal supporter of gun rights. So Ron wanted guns banned, but wanted that kept secret and have the City of Tampa take the heat. What a stand-up guy! You might have some 'splainin' to do to the 2A crowd Ronnie! www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/02/10/desantis-campaign-emails-gun-free-event/

Jesus is frowning right now... ...anyway, for one, Florida isn't even a border state, so what's their burden? Two, I live in California - one of those few states you're talking about - where we don't whine about it like Greg Abbott, we deal with it. Like adults. Also, I'm sure you've noticed that border crossings have been dropping drastically, right? Oh, wait, that doesn't fit the Fox narrative, but still, you might want to look at the numbers so far this year...

You were actually mad because I suggested that all the sanctuary cities equally deal with the problem they wanted in the first place? That is completely logical. They are the ones that supported people pouring over the border so they are the ones that can take care of them. Practice what you preach. If you can’t then shut up.

Also, when did Florida become a border state? At the very least, a sea-WALL would help against global warming.

So exactly what state purpose does this serve? I mean - the rationale for spending taxpayer funds is that it benefits the state in some way. But of course you know this is all to boost DeSantis's political aims. And the legislatures if more than willing to waste Florida state funds on this. I'm pretty sure you know this an approve of spending taxpayer money for the benefit of GOP political causes. That's why you're such a hypocrite.
