Thanks for posting that here. I don't read every thread on here, so that was news to me.

I just updated the transfers post above. Looks like Denver is the most affected school. Lost some of their better players.

Denver also loses setter Lauren Carter to the portal as does Oral Roberts with outside Kaia Dunford Thanks! Looks like both Denver and ORU are the most negatively effected by the portal, which makes sense with both schools having new coaches in 2023.

They were half of Saint Thomas' wins last year.

I think this is positive for everyone involved. WIU will spend less money on travel and compete against schools with similar funding levels.

It does still feel strange for WIU to leave a conference they were a founding member of, though. They are the last founding member of the Mid-Continent/ Summit to leave. Kind of symbolic, with the conference headquarters moving from Illinois to South Dakota just a few years ago. A large chunk of the previous members are now in the Horizon League. The immediate affect of the abrupt departure is an unbalanced/ broken schedule in all sports. St Thomas was travel partners with WIU. We've done this before, when Ft Wayne left.

The immediate affect of the abrupt departure is an unbalanced/ broken schedule in all sports. St Thomas was travel partners with WIU. We've done this before, when Ft Wayne left. The timing is definitely inconvenient. I read that the soccer teams are staying in the Summit this year in exchange for lower overall exit fees. I'll probably still follow the Summit out of habit, but looking forward to hopefully picking up a few more wins in the OVC.
