The 1.6 billion number, as I understand, also factored in punitive damages, though I could be wrong.
FOX clearly believed they would have sustained more than $787.5 million worth of damage to their brand had they continued with the trial, even if the amount to Dominion would have been far less than that.

$787.5 certainly sounds a lot like:
"How about $775M?" "$800M" "Split the difference?" "OK, deal."

Well, like I said, money wasn't the issue. Its the Dominion's reputation that matters. But a jury trial can’t restore a company’s reputation. The only remedy at trial is money. This is a company whose valuation is estimated to be less than $100 million, and they just landed over $700 million. They actually got a lukewarm acknowledgement from Fox News that they wouldn’t have gotten from a jury verdict. Reputation can be restored in the sense that the wronged party gets recognition and acknowledgment from winning thr case.

Ultimately of course, the best recognition is making Fox settle or pay Dominion, through the process of discovery, to humilate them.

Smartmatic is apparently going to use what it learned and says that they’re not settling unless Fox issues an official apology.

Excellent legal analysis of the defamation case on Fox, give it a watch if you got time: His vid on the Disney-Florida fight was epic, and partially recorded on location. But not in Florida.
