So Alevok's dream school is UCLA but then she posted that she got an offer from UCLA? I wonder what long game she's playing. It's very interesting. Take all the time girlie! she's probably waiting to see if she gets a better offer from a top tier program...ucla & usc have a ways to go to get back to the top but the one thing ucla & usc have going for them is joining the big 10 the following season (meaning live in sunny cali & play in the big 10)...it will be interesting to see how these cali schools perform in the big 10 in volleyball edit: to me she seems interested in texas she mentioned one of the things she’s looking for in a program is if the “volleyball and academics are insane” … while the big 10 is clearly the best volleyball conference, outside of Northwestern none of those “top tier” programs are UCLA academically. The best thing for UCLA & USC is they got new coaching staffs.

This isn't specifically about volleyball recruiting, but I know having inside access on a lot of football and basketball players' recruiting process over the years, what these kids say publicly may or may not be reflective of the actual decision making process. People put WAAAAAAAY too much weight into the public comments kids make about what they're looking for, or why they made the decision they did. That's true for all of us, really. Having been in sales all my life, it's amazing to me to watch people make rationalizations for why they made big decisions, when I was there for the whole process and I know what actually helped make up their mind. And it's not what they say helped make up their mind. Anyway, people are always going to parse through what kids say about the process, because that's what we have to work with. I'm just putting it out there to not put too much weight on it. If Hazel Alevok - or anyone else, for that matter - finds an emotional connection with a program/staff, she'll figure out a way that it fits her predetermined criteria.

I'm sure this is very debatable based on what specific programs you are looking at, but UCLA and USC are not "heads and shoulders" above the top ranked B1G schools. Michigan is right there with them, and Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio State, Purdue, Rutgers and Maryland are not far behind. Plenty of highly-ranked options, academically speaking.

I believe all of the Big10 schools are AAU institutions which only includes 71 schools across the country.

IIRC, something to do with how the university and the university hospital are 'associated' that AAU wanted changed, and the university didn't want to do. But I could be wrong.

Nebraska hasn't been harmed by not being a member of the AAU, and the hurdles they'd have to clear to be reconsidered aren't really worth it considering our focus on agriculture.

I'd bet my bottom dollar that most don't.

Neither school are just awful and are adding quality talent to compete.
